Cheddar's Story
Cheddar is a really sweet and lovely terrier mix that needs an adult only home now.
He is being listed as a courtesy for one of our families that sadly cannot keep him.

His Mom says:
Cheddar is a very sweet and very anxious rescue terrier mix originally from Texas. He is 17 pounds and 2-ish years old. We adopted him in September and learned that he should not be in a home with a young child, so we need to find him a perfect child-free home.
Small children trigger fear based reactions and stress him out - he barks, growls and snaps. Perhaps with specific behavior modification training, he could eventually live with kids, but he would need to be re-assessed. He has leash reactivity to all dogs, though is improving with treat training and time. He has separation anxiety and barks when anyone walks by the house. As he has gotten closer to us, he is incredibly reactive to all kids and some adults. He growls and barks and will lunge at unexpected moments. He is INCREDIBLY sweet to his chosen adult, however. He is loving and a wonderful companion to that person and wants to be with them and loved and petted and cared for. I wish I had met Cheddar at a different life stage, but he cannot be in the house with my very energetic and erratic eight year old.

He would benefit from behavior training to address his anxiety and deserves to be the "only child" in the house. He clearly lived in a loving home at some point before we met him. He is perfectly house trained, knows how to sit and give his paw and loves tummy rubs and attention. Cheddar is in great health. He is neutered and up to date on all vaccines. He seems to be allergic to chicken/poultry (he had loose stools and itchiness so we switched off of ALL chicken ingredients and both things have improved). He now eats minimal ingredient salmon dry food and salmon and bacon treats. He is on a probiotic Rx from the vet and monthly flea and tick chews. We recently started him on anti-anxiety medicine and he's on a trial period of Trazedone and Gabepentin.

Cheddar would thrive in a child free home with adult/s who are invested in making him a safe and calm home so he can gain confidence that he will be cared for and loved. Cheddar is a chill guy during the day (when there are no kids around or dogs near). He loves to go on long walks and has the zoomies when he gets in from being out. He loves chewing on bully sticks. He likes to chase toys but doesn't yet know how to bring them back - but he will play keep away! It is so hard to let him go, but we know that he deserves a calm, loving home and we need to protect and prioritize our (human) child.

View their complete profile and additional photos here:
https://api.home-home.org/v2/pet/4249793f-9565-4960-a254-a2046f4bac38/share

Cheddar will be re-homed directly though his current family at their request.
Inquiries can be made to True North and we will connect you directly.

Thank you!
