Checkers (JA26-95)'s Story

Meet Checkers - A Petite Explorer with a Gentle Heart

At just 11 pounds, Checkers may be small in size, but she's ready for life's little adventures. This 4-year-old Maltese-Yorkie mix can be a bit cautious when meeting new people, but with a little time and patience, she quickly warms up and becomes a loyal companion.

Checkers loves spending time outdoors and takes her sniffing duties seriously, happily exploring the yard alongside her dog friends. She truly thrives in the company of other dogs and will require a calm, friendly canine companion in her new home to help her feel secure, continue building confidence, and enjoy having a buddy to play with.

Once she feels safe, Checkers blossoms-she's ready for walks, cozy cuddles, and relaxing in a soft bed or your lap. She's looking for a kind and patient home where she can continue to grow and enjoy all the simple joys of being a beloved pet.

As part of our adoption process, an in-kennel meet and greet is required to ensure the best fit for both Checkers and her potential adopters.

If you're searching for a gentle companion and already have a friendly dog looking for a buddy, Checkers may be the perfect addition to your home.
----------------------
Before being rescued, many of our dogs had limited socialization, so they may need some time to adjust to life as a family pet. Older kids are often a great fit for our dogs, and homes with younger children will be considered based on each dog's individual needs. Skills like house training and leash walking may take a little extra patience and practice. However, with understanding and a gentle hand, most of these dogs adapt quite quickly. Being a part of their rehabilitation is a truly rewarding experience. To learn more about mill dogs and start the adoption process, visit our website!
