Charlie Parker's Story
Meet Charlie Parker: Bebop Heartthrob, Cheese Sommelier & The Most Bafflingly Unadopted Dog in America

Charlie Parker is a 3-year-old, ~60-pound Shepherd/Hound mix, and we need to discuss an ongoing failure of logic.

Everyone who meets Charlie loves Charlie.

Kids love Charlie. Dogs love Charlie. Volunteers love Charlie. Random people love Charlie. Zach Woods from The Office once hung out with Charlie at an adoption event and loved Charlie.

And yet Charlie remains unadopted.

We have reviewed the evidence. We have checked our work. We are beginning to suspect a clerical error in the universe.

Charlie is dog-friendly and plays beautifully with other dogs. He loves kids. He's affectionate without behaving as though personal space was abolished by Congress. He's funny, sensitive, playful, handsome, neutered, heartworm negative, up-to-date on vaccines, and equipped with the sort of enormous soulful eyes normally reserved for Renaissance paintings of saints who know something you don't.

Cats remain something of an unresolved footnote in the Charlie Parker biography. He ignores them when he sees them on walks, which is encouraging, but we don't have enough evidence to confidently declare him cat-friendly. Consider that particular collaboration TBD pending further auditions.

With new people, he can be slightly shy at first, which lasts approximately until Charlie determines you are not suspicious and may potentially have cheese. Then the set begins.

And cheese is important here.

Charlie does not merely like cheese. Charlie has developed a sophisticated theological position on cheese. A wrapper crinkles three rooms away and suddenly this reserved gentleman has materialized beside you like dairy summoned him through a portal.

He's also athletic and exceptionally quick, so Charlie needs a secure fence and humans who understand that an open door is not a door to him. It is an invitation to begin the North American leg of his tour.

But here is what genuinely baffles us: Charlie keeps meeting people. They pet him. They adore him. They tell us how incredible he is. And then somehow they leave without Charlie Parker.

People.

This is becoming embarrassing for our species.

He is sweet. He is gorgeous. He loves dogs. He loves kids. He is hilarious. He has celebrity connections. He has cheekbones. He has a cheese-based belief system.

What exactly are we waiting for, a Grammy?

Charlie Parker has been passed over enough.

Somebody please recognize greatness while it is still inexplicably available.

PLEASE READ BELOW:

If you are interested in meeting and/or adopting, the first step is to complete an application and read all of our FAQs:

https://www.takepawsrescue.org/adopt

Please note: Information to determine if you might be a match for one of our animals can only be found on our application.
*An inquiry, questions or introduction through Petfinder is NOT an application*
All known details about our animals are posted on their profile and updated daily. Other info will be discussed in detail with the foster during the application review process. Due to the high volume of introductions/questions received we ask you to submit an application (that application can be used for any dog with Take Paws Rescue).

The adoption fee for adult dogs covers age appropriate vaccinations, microchip, spay/neuter if not yet performed, heartworm test & appropriate heartworm treatment by the rescue's vet. All dogs in our care are also kept up-to-date on HW/Flea Prevention.
For more on this, or for additional information, including the adoption process and our adoption fee scale for all our adoptable pets (including an explanation about Benefactor Dogs), please see our FAQs page:

https://www.takepawsrescue.org/faq

Any breed labels used by Take Paws Rescue, its employees/volunteers, or on vet records provided cannot be guaranteed. Breed labels are given based on information obtained during intake and/or best guesses based on appearance and/or temperament of the dogs and Take Paws Rescue gives no assurance to the accuracy of these labels. Labels are necessary for postings to many animal networking sites, such as our website, Chewy, Pet Finder, and others. These are in no way a guarantee. Additionally, exact age and potential size cannot be guaranteed.

***Take Paws Rescue, based in New Orleans, saves dogs from high-kill shelters across the South, owner surrenders, and discarded dogs with uncertain futures. All of our animals live in foster homes where they are socialized and well cared for. An application will be required to make sure it's the perfect match!
