Charlie's Story

Meet Adoptable Mix Charlie: A Dapper Dachshund Mix with a Big Heart

If you're looking for a calm, loyal, and slightly quirky companion with a heart full of love, allow us to introduce you to Charlie — an 11-year-old Dachshund mix who's aging like fine wine and proving every day that senior pups make the BEST friends.

At a healthy 19 pounds, Charlie may be in his golden years, but don't let that fool you — this little gentleman has places to be! Once unable to walk much at all, Charlie now struts proudly on 1+ mile walks daily, often at a brisk pace, keeping an eye out for birds, squirrels, and bunnies — not to chase, just to admire.

The Social Butterfly:

Charlie adores other dogs, especially the big ones. He greets canine pals on walks with a happy wag and a friendly demeanor. Small dogs? Not so much.
He's a bit wary of their tiny, squeaky voices (honestly, who can blame him?).
He is a bit weary of small children but he's great with kids 12 and up, enjoys gentle pets from friendly neighbors, and loves a good chat — especially when someone uses their sweet voice to say hello.

Charlie is:

• House trained (uses the "long stare" to politely ask to go out)

• Crate trained (he'll go in without complaint, even if it's not his favorite)

• Great on a leash (he'll even present himself for harnessing!)

• Well-behaved in the car (just needs a little boost into higher vehicles)

• Quiet and content when gated in a room while you're out

• Polite around food and toys — he even lets you take his bowl mid-meal with zero fuss!

Oh, and did we mention he's shed a whole 1.2 pounds in just 18 days thanks to a healthy diet (green beans are his favorite "treat") and daily walks? This guy is committed to his wellness journey!

A Few Charlie Quirks (that we find totally endearing):

• He "grumbles" when something doesn't suit him (like bath time), but never snaps or nips.

• He barks once in the morning to greet the day and again when the neighbor mows the lawn (rude!).

• He sleeps peacefully in his dog bed next to his foster and is ready to zoom out the door once the sun's up.

Vetting and Medical:

In our care, Charlie has been to the vet, had a dental procedure where they cleaned and removed some teeth. The only medication Charlie takes is his monthly heartworm and his pre-dental bloodwork was amazing.

Medical Donations:

We depend on donations from caring people, like you, to make a difference in the lives of dogs. As an all volunteer organization, you can rest assured that the donations go directly to help the dogs. Thank you!

Adoptable Mix Charlie - 11 yrs, 19 lbs

Charlie's Ideal Home:

While Charlie loves meeting dogs on walks, he would shine brightest as the only dog in an adult-only home where he can get all the love and attention he deserves. He comes with his beloved squeaky bear, a growing toy interest, and a heart full of quiet affection.

Charlie is polite, independent, and secretly playful. He may be a senior, but he's still got plenty of pep in his step and a lifetime of love to give. Ready to meet your new best friend? Charlie's waiting for his forever family — could that be you?

Adoption Fee $150

If you believe you could provide a safe and loving forever home for this dog, please fill out an application with the dogs' name on it.

*Be advised, we have a couple of volunteers processing hundreds of applications. We are unable to call everyone back as we do not have ANY employees. Our dedicated volunteers and foster parents will check references of the applications that appear to be a good match. At that time, if you are chosen, we will contact you to arrange a home visit.

The adoption fee helps to cover costs, as each dog is fully vetted, and treated, as needed to prepare them to move forward in their new life. You pay no fee unless you are chosen to adopt.

Under 1 $350
1-3 years $300
4-7 years $250
8-10 years $200
Over 10 $150
Special Needs $150

Please go to the Low Rider website:

www.LowRiderRescue.org
