Charlie's Story

Meet Charlie
Charlie is an intelligent, athletic, and incredibly loyal companion looking for the right person to call her own. She forms deep bonds with her family and is happiest when she's included in whatever the day brings—whether that's a mountain hike, a neighborhood walk or simply relaxing on the couch together. She's affectionate, playful, and absolutely loves toys, puzzles, and spending time with her favorite people.
Charlie is an active dog who thrives on adventure. She loves hiking, exploring, and chasing ground squirrels, making her a wonderful match for someone who enjoys the outdoors. She also rides beautifully in the car, is fully house-trained, and settles in well at home after a day of activity.
One of Charlie's greatest strengths is her love of learning. She has completed 12 weeks of one-on-one professional training and is highly motivated by positive reinforcement. She knows her basic cues, enjoys learning new tricks, and excels at training games that challenge her mind. She's made excellent progress with impulse control around food, focus on her handler, and choosing calm behaviors around distractions. She has also worked on leash manners and recall, though she will continue to benefit from practicing these skills, especially in exciting outdoor environments. Charlie truly enjoys training, and it's one of the best ways to build a strong relationship with her.
Charlie is looking for a home where she doesn't have to compete for attention or resources. She would do best as the only dog in an adult-only home. While she has lived successfully with a cat for over a year, she is happiest when she has her own space and consistent routines.
Charlie's previous trainer has observed that she can become uncomfortable around valued resources such as food, resting places, or her favorite person. With thoughtful management—such as giving her her own designated resting spot and maintaining clear household boundaries—she has shown meaningful improvement. She has also worked extensively on impulse control exercises and has made great progress learning to leave food alone, focus on her handler, and make good choices in everyday situations.
Charlie does have a sensitive history, which is why finding the right home is so important. She lost her previous homes following incidents involving corrective nipping at a young child and, later, a conflict with another dog. Because Charlie's warnings can be subtle, she is not a good fit for a home with children or other dogs. In the right environment, where she doesn't have to share her space and her family understands her needs, Charlie has shown herself to be a loving, fun, and deeply devoted companion.
Her trainer believes Charlie has every opportunity to be successful with a family committed to continuing the positive training she's already received. As an added bonus, Charlie's current owner is generously offering to sponsor training sessions with her professional trainer to help her transition into her new home. Continued training isn't because Charlie is a "problem dog"—it's because she genuinely loves learning, and it helps set both Charlie and her new family up for long-term success.
Charlie isn't looking for just any home—she's looking for the right one. If you're an experienced dog owner who appreciates a smart, active dog and is willing to continue building the trusting relationship Charlie thrives on, you'll gain an incredibly loyal companion who will be by your side through every adventure.
