Charlie's Story

Charlie is a one-year-old pup with a gentle soul and a heart full of love, just waiting for the right person to see him. He came to us underweight and clearly hasn’t had the easiest start in life, but you would never know it from his sweet, trusting nature. Charlie is incredibly kind, affectionate, and eager to connect with people. Even after everything he’s been through, he still leans in for pets and looks at you with soft, hopeful eyes. Charlie is dog-friendly and enjoys the company of other dogs. He would do well in a home with a canine companion or as a solo dog soaking up all the love. He’s still gaining weight and strength, so his new family will need to continue supporting him as he fills out and grows into a healthy, happy dog. He’s at that perfect age where he’s past the tiny puppy stage but still young and ready to learn. With a little structure, good nutrition, and a lot of love, Charlie is going to absolutely thrive. Petersburg Animal Care & Control's Adoption Policy

Thank you for your interest in adopting from Petersburg Animal Care & Control! We’re so glad you’re considering giving a shelter pet a loving home. We do not charge an adoption fee; however, all animals must be spayed or neutered prior to adoption, and the cost of the procedure is covered by the adopter. We’re happy to support adopters by coordinating appointments with our low-cost veterinary partners for spay/neuter services and other basic care needs. Adoption Process • We prefer to schedule appointments for meet-and-greets to ensure that staff or volunteers are available to spend adequate time helping you get to know the animal. • When you arrive, please sign in and wait to be escorted by a staff member or volunteer before entering the kennel areas. • For safety reasons, please do not reach into kennels or attempt to touch animals through barriers. If you’re interested in a particular pet, our team will bring them to a meet-and-greet area for proper introductions. • After your visit, you’re welcome to submit an adoption application. Applications must be approved before we can schedule a meet-and-greet with your family pets. • Meet-and-greets with personal pets are by appointment only, and for safety, two staff members must be present to handle all animals involved. We appreciate your patience and understanding as we work to make each match the best fit possible — both for our animals and their future families.
