Chance (aka Crash)'s Story

Snugglepup Alert!! We rescued Chance from a high kill shelter in AL, and we're so glad we did. What a loveable little boy! His foster believes he was used as a breeding stud - he was quite underweight and didn't understand many basics, but is now safe, learning new things and ready for adoption! Chance is in LOVE with people! Give him a minute and he'll be your best friend. Do something nice for him and he's yours forever! He LOVE LOVE LOVES being pet and snuggled (we don't think he got much of that in the past at all...), and his favorite time is on the couch with his head in your lap watching TV. AWWW! Toys? Eh.... That's time away from YOU! However, foster just ordered some Kongs to fill with peanut butter, so he will be distracted when they leave, as he has a touch of separation anxiety. We believe this will abate when he realizes he's not being left behind. He loves his walks and does beautifully on a leash - doesn't pull, just trots along! He's a good eater, and is food motivated. He's definitely a smart one, and has learned a number of commands, such as Sit, Off, and Gentle (foster's elderly mom lives with them - he's wonderful with her). He's also learned many basics that most dogs learn just being dogs, like how to drink from a bowl, and how to walk on hard surfaces inside like tile and wood without fear. He is a little timid still, and tends to start or yelp when there are loud noises or surprises. For this reason we think older children who are calmer in general would be best with him. He is very good with the fosters' small chi's, but hasn't been tested with the big boys. He does bark at their very dominant cat, so that may be on a case by case. He does love his brothers though, plays well and sleeps on the bed with them. Upside Down. Go figya'! Chance does not like crates, or enclosures - we think he is reminded of bad times and gets upset. He is fully housetrained though, and whines by the door when it's time to go out. This is a great, resilient dog who has seen a lot and is moving past it beautifully. He's a total mush, will be content wherever you are, and loves to cuddle. He's a great option for a senior, or anyone who wants a true companion dog!
