Chance's Story
Meet Chance.

The first thing you'll probably notice about Chance isn't his handsome face.

It's the "Bite Risk" sign on his kennel.

We could avoid talking about it altogether.
But that's not who we are.
We believe in being honest and transparent about every dog in our care because that's how we build successful, lasting adoptions.

Now let us tell you about the dog behind the sign.
We don't know what Chance's life looked like before he arrived at the shelter. He can't tell us his story.
But sometimes...
Pictures are worth a thousand words.

The first photo was taken when Chance arrived. Sitting inside his kennel, his expression says everything. A dog who had every reason to be cautious.

The second photo was taken yesterday during photo day.

When someone walks past his kennel or reaches toward him through the bars, Chance becomes worried. He may growl or ask for space. In a shelter, surrounded by constant noise, unfamiliar people, and nowhere to retreat, that's how he tells us he's uncomfortable.
So yes, his kennel carries a "Bite Risk" sign.
Not because Chance is a bad or aggressive dog.
It's there because we want every interaction to start safely and thoughtfully while he continues building confidence.

Here's the part most visitors never see.
Open the kennel door. Give him a little time. Let him realize you're not asking anything from him except a chance.

His whole body changes.
The tension fades.
His tail starts wagging.
He leans in for affection.

It's as if he's been waiting for someone to see past the kennel door.

Chance has also shown us how much he enjoys other dogs. He happily plays with his kennel neighbors and seems to find comfort in canine companionship. Watching him play, you'd never guess this is the same dog who looked so worried just moments before.

Dogs don't choose the experiences that shape them.
Whatever happened before Chance came to us, it taught him to be careful with strangers. That's not a character flaw it's a survival skill. And now, every day, he's learning that not every new person is someone to fear.

Chance isn't looking for perfection.
He's looking for patience.
For someone who understands that trust is earned, not expected.

The easiest thing in the world is to walk past a kennel because of a sign.
The harder, and sometimes far more rewarding, thing is to ask, "Can you tell me about him?"

We would love nothing more than to introduce you to the Chance we know.

Because once you meet him, you'll understand that the sign doesn't tell his whole story.

Chance does.

So yes, his kennel carries a "Bite Risk" sign.
Not because Chance is a bad or aggressive dog.
It's there because we want every interaction to start safely and thoughtfully while he continues building confidence.
Here's the part most visitors never see.
