One of our amazing volunteer foster families has generously donated to Street Dog Hero to fully sponsor Chance's adoption fee! That means Chance's special person now has an incredible opportunity to bring this deserving boy home without an adoption fee. His adoption fee is covered... now all he needs is YOU!<br/><br/>Chance is a loyal, intelligent heeler who forms deep bonds with one or two people. Like many heelers, he can be reactive to unfamiliar dogs and protective of his person, but with those he trusts, he's incredibly affectionate, eager to please, and highly responsive to commands. He's also very food motivated and loves chew toys, naps, and car rides. He has done well in the home with low to medium energy dogs and has not had much experience with kids. He would do best in a quiet, low energy home. <br/><br/>Unlike a typical heeler, Chance has lower exercise needs due to his age, limited mobility, and history of heartworm. He enjoys a calm, routine lifestyle where he can feel safe, loved, and supported. <br/><br/>His ideal adopter is committed to helping him continue recovering from his spinal surgery which took place in May 2026 and will maintain a safe lifestyle for him to prevent recurrent injuries. This includes attending rehabilitation appointments, completing daily at-home physical therapy, and following his neurologist's lifelong recommendations to avoid high-impact activities like jumping, running, dog play and sharp turns.<br/><br/>Chance does best with someone who is home frequently. He has some separation anxiety depending on the environment but usually does just fine home alone for a short periods of time. He is currently incontinent, which is manageable with a consistent routine, belly bands, and manual bladder expression about every 4 hours. He does a great job holding his bladder between expressions, and with continued healing, there's hope he will regain more independent bladder and bowel function over time.<br/><br/>Chance is looking for a patient, committed adopter who will give him the structure, care, and love he needs to heal and live a happy, comfortable life.
