I am just over a year old and am the perfect mix of fun, goofy puppy and chill teenager. I am affectionate, playful, incredibly intelligent and I love to learn. With the right guidance I will be a loyal companion and true best friend. I am neutered, up to date on all my vaccinations and have the cutest cropped tail! <br/><br/>My favourite pastimes are playing fetch with a ball, sniffing out treats or chewing on a toy (Just not stuffies as they are too easy to destroy!). I have done some basic training and love to work for treats. I am very food motivated and will keep you entertained with my ability to do endless circles, or paw gives for a wee snack. I am a smart boy and have picked up on my training quickly but do need consistency and positive reinforcements to keep me focused. I am smart as can be and love to show off my new skills! <br/><br/>I love going for walks to the park or around the neighbourhood and am working on my leash manners. I walk great with a Halti and am getting better at not pulling. Due to my larger size and strength, I need someone who is comfortable with a bigger dog while I continue to make progress with my leash training. I’m happiest when I have had a few walks and lots of indoor play and enrichment. I am house trained and use the back yard in between walks when needed. <br/><br/>One of my quirks is I can be a bit sneaky! I love to steal the kitchen towel or an odd sock that’s laying on the floor. I may growl when I have this item but have learned to give it up for a treat or an item of higher value when asked to trade. <br/><br/>After some exercise I am happy to retreat to my comfy bed and relax or if you’re ok with me on the furniture I will happily cuddle on the couch too. I like being around people but am also ok to be on my own throughout the day. I am crate trained while my humans aren’t home, and I sleep in the crate at night. I have been left out of the crate for short periods of time, and it has been successful, but I just naturally head there when I see people are getting ready to go out, so it has been used to keep me safe and for consistency. <br/><br/>I like meeting new dogs but have not had much interaction over long periods of time with them. With proper introductions I’m sure I would warm up to being part of a pack. I am not good with cats and would not like to have them in my space. I much prefer adult humans for companionship and would do best in a home without small children. I have so much love to give and will thrive with a family who is committed to continuing my training and setting appropriate boundaries. I’m ready for my next adventure, please consider adopting me, you won’t be disappointed.

The Animal Guardian Society's Adoption Policy
Please note that since TAGS is a smaller volunteer program, we are limited to adoptions within the Durham Region area. We encourage those applicants who apply outside of the area to check your local shelters and rescue programs. We are always happy to refer you to a program in your area. The TAGS Adoption Process consists of these steps: Step 1 – The Adoption Application: Whether you are interested in a particular animal already in our rescue program or wish to be considered for any animals that may become available in the future, you must complete the online Adoption Application Form in full. The application gives our volunteers an idea of what you have to offer a rescued animal and also helps to determine which animal will be better suited to your home environment. Applicants are requested to FOLLOW UP the online application submission by EMAIL to confirm their interest. We thank all applicants for their submissions, however only those applicants APPROVED by the TAGS Adoption Committee will be contacted. Step 2 – The Meet & Greet: Upon approval of your application, a TAGS representative will contact you to arrange a Meet & Greet with one or a number of our adoptable dogs. The Meet & Greets are held at the TAGS Dog Park & Training Centre, by appointment, on Saturdays between 11am and 2pm. Step 3 – The Home Visit: The visit consists of a minimum of two trained volunteers bringing the pet to the applicant’s home for a meeting. This gives the applicant an opportunity to see the pet in their home, and to ask further questions. Our volunteers will take this opportunity to get to know your family and your level of experience through a series of questions. Step 4 – The Extended Visit: After a Home Visit has been conducted, we encourage the potential adoptive family to take their time and discuss amongst themselves. Remember, adopting an animal is an important and large decision, and all family members should be in complete agreement. Should the family decide to request the Extended Visit, they must contact us with their request. However, please note that a Home Visit does not automatically entitle a family to an Extended Visit. The volunteers conducting the interview must also be comfortable that the match is suitable. Information gathered during the Home Visit is forwarded to the TAGS Adoption Committee for final approval. The potential adopter will be informed if their request is denied and why. Volunteers may also recommend a more suitable dog at their discretion. During the Extended Visit, the dog will come and stay in the applicant’s home for a number of days in order to determine if it is a good fit. Step 5 – The Adoption Agreement: If the first three steps have been completed successfully, the new owners must attend a mandatory 9 week workshop (dogs only).  Once that is completed, the final stage of the adoption process is the signing of an adoption agreement by the adopter and a TAGS representative. Only at this stage is ownership of the animal transferred from TAGS to the adopter, and they are free to begin a happy and life-long relationship. The Adoption Fee includes the following benefits: Veterinary health exam Spay/Neuter (done prior to adoption) Vaccinations appropriate for age Rabies vaccine for all pets 5 months of age and older Microchip Implant and registration Parasite treatment including De-worming 4DX SNAP Screening test Nail trim if needed Dental if needed 9 Weeks of behaviour training classes (dogs only) 7 day in home trial TAGS Adoption Fees Puppies: $899.00 Adult dogs over one year: $799.00 Kittens: $300.00 Cats: $400.00 The fee is to be paid at the time of signing the adoption contract.
