He and our male mastiff seem to get along fine, they coexist and they each tend to do their own thing. While he is happy to play with the resident female dog he also loves people most and wants to be with you. Champ has had no accidents at all and alerts us if he needs to go outside. He enjoys the outside for a bit but is very content being on the couch with you getting snuggles. Crate training is a work in progress. He goes in the crate well and seems better during the day. At night he still cries off and on and prefers to sleep on the couch. We have enjoyed having him but can’t wait for him to find his family.

1/15/26-When Champ feels it’s better to play inside where its warm and the resident Bernese mix thinks outside in the cold is best. A little stand off ensues. Lol See picture. We took a quick trip to Tractor Supply to get his heartworm/lyme test and he loved everyone he met! He travels well in the car. He needs encouragement to get in the car but rides well once in it. He has had introductions to the resident male and female dogs. He likes to play with the female dog but we arent sure how he feels about our male dog yet and they need a slower introduction(but the male is a giant 190 lb mastiff, so that may be part of it lol). We haven’t had any potty accidents in the house yet and he goes outside regularly. He knows sit and is food motivated and wants to learn. He likes to go outside and sniff around, but he also likes to be inside with his people. Champ knows sit, is very food-motivated, and is eager to learn more (especially if snacks are involved). He enjoys outdoor adventures just as much as cozy indoor time with his humans. One of his favorite things? Keeping tabs on the teens in the house—he likes to know what everyone is up to and be part of the action. He has done well with all the energy in the house that comes with 3 teen boys. When we went for a short walk he had good leash manners. He only pulled on the way home when he seemed cold and was ready to get inside (I dont blame him!). He was non-reactive on his walk to dogs, squirrels and cars which was great. We are working on crate training and have seen him make progress even in the short time we have had him. He will whine and cry in the crate but it has gotten better than the first day. This good boy has all the makings of an amazing family dog and will absolutely flourish in a home that gives him love, patience, and a comfy spot to relax. We should have the results of his heartworm/lyme test in a few days & once we get to know him & his needs a little better he will be ready for his new home.

1/10/26-Champ is a handsome 15 month old boxer owner surrender that came into rescue today thanks to his transport volunteers. Sadly soon after getting Champ from a breeder as a puppy his owner was diagnosed with serious health condition. A family member was currently taking care of him but he is too strong for her & too much to handle right now. They said he needs someone who can be the boss as he is dominant & alpha personality with people & dogs & has taken control of their household. The family was planning to keep him forever but the family lives on a farm/family compound. The family have 2 big dogs but unfortunately Champ is way too much energy for them & they had no prior boxer experience. Sounds like he does a ton of jumping and he’s crazy like a typical young Boxer boy. He sounds like a very vocal boxer too which can be mistaken by people & dogs as acting tough when it’s just the way many boxers talk. There are chickens and cats on the farm which they said sometimes he will chase, and other times not care about their presence. Champ would probably be ok with dog savvy cats & someone willing to work with him on cat introductions.

Here is info from one of our transport volunteers who helped get Champ into rescue:

are on his way to his foster home and he’s just the best road trip companion. He keeps trying to snuggle me while I drive. Lol I just know his new family will fall in love with him immediately and he will make them very happy. He is an absolute sweetheart. If you’d love some XL size snuggles with this baby apply now. Thank you SCBR for helping this sweet soul.

From his foster home:

Champ has arrived at his foster home and loves everyone, our dogs, and especially my kids(teens)!! Kisses galore. Lol He’s SO sweet! Just the sweetest boy.
