Chad's Story

Chad is such a sweet & shy dog who came from a rough past and he's just now learning that humans can be kind. He has slowly been making progress at the shelter, but he really needs a home & committed family to continue his training & socialization. What we know: -Shy but very food motivated. Treats & meal time is the way to his heart to help him bond with his family. -Gets along with some dogs, but he gets picked on by a lot of dogs here at the shelter :( He would love a friendly dog friend to show him the ropes and play with him. -Working on potty training, crate training, leash walking etc. He will need your support & love to master these in a home! -He would love a confident, experienced dog owner to help him learn & grow! -Unknown how he is with kids or cats. But we would recommend no young kids due to his fearful nature. Come meet me at High Country Humane located at 11665 N. Highway 89, Flagstaff, AZ 86004. Our shelter is open Thursday-Tuesday, 11am-5pm, and closed on Wednesdays. Adopting with High Country Humane means your new pet is spayed/neutered, up to date on vaccines, and microchipped (we register it for free!). Each adoption also includes a free health exam. Please bring a leash and collar with you or plan to purchase here. We can't wait to help you meet your new furry friend!

BROWSE The best way to view all our adoptable pets is right here on our website! Here, you can see pictures and read important information like gender, age, and personality. Please note that some of our adoptable pets may be at the shelter or in a foster home. We encourage you to take your time with this process and make a mental note of the pet(s) you’d like to meet! *For the well-being of our animals, we do not allow walk-throughs of the kennels. When you arrive at the shelter, please have a few pets in mind that you’d like to meet, and we will be happy to assist you with a meet & greet! MEET & GREET After narrowing down your search, we encourage you to spend time with your potential new best friend! You do NOT have to have an appointment to come in. The shelter is open Thursday through Tuesday, 11AM-5PM. Closed on Wednesdays! Our dedicated team is here to assist and address any questions you might have. If you already have a dog at home, be sure to bring them to the shelter to meet any potential new house-mates. We want to ensure dogs will get along BEFORE taking one home! Note: we do not test shelter cats with dogs or shelter dogs with cats. COMPLETE ADOPTION When you’ve found your perfect match, we’ll move on to complete the adoption. We ask that you sign an adoption agreement and pay the adoption fee. This fee helps chip in for surgeries, vaccines, and day-to-day care your adopted pet has had with us. Donations are always welcome; they help us take care of the next pet that comes through our doors! This is also a great time to ask our team any lingering questions you might have, and we’re here to provide you with resources so you and your new pet can start things off on the right paw! AFTER ADOPTION You have a new pet, how exciting! Please remember that each animal will have an adjustment period in their new home after adoption. Every pet is unique & will adjust differently, but as a general guideline you can follow the 3-3-3 rule! 3 days to decompress, 3 weeks to learn your routine, and 3 months to start to feel at home. It doesn’t happen overnight, so give your new pet the patience they need to settle in & feel at home!
