Cecelia's Story

Meet Cecilia, a 2 year old Husky weighing 45 pounds,

*Non-negotiable- must have fenced yard and another dog*

Cecilia is a sweet and gentle girl who, after treated for heartworm, is now ready for her forever home. After two months of necessary, but isolating, cage rest, this happy and energetic girl is eager to put her paws on the ground and play. Cecilia is seeking a calm, patient, and understanding family to help her build confidence and learn to accept affection at her own pace.

Personality
A work in progress: Having been a stray, Cecilia is still learning to trust humans. While she is happy to be around her foster family, she shies away from touch, pets, or brushes. Her new family must understand that earning her trust and affection will take time.

Loves mealtime: Cecilia's joy is most evident during mealtime. She follows her foster family to the food bin, twirling in excitement. She is also a polite lady when it comes to "cheese time," waiting patiently and taking treats gently from her foster mom's hand. Food is a great way to build trust and create positive associations with her humans.

Playful and energetic: Despite her shyness with people, Cecilia has a happy and energetic spirit. She loves to play and is looking for a family that will engage with her in fun, low-pressure ways.

Needs a buddy: Cecilia adores other dogs and would do best in a home with another playful canine companion. This will give her an outlet for her energy and help her continue to build confidence.

Good to know
House cats are cool: Cecilia is good with cats and tries to play with them in her foster home. A calm, cat-savvy feline friend could be a good companion for her. Introductions should always be slow and supervised to ensure a positive experience for both animals.

Fenced yard is a must: Sudden, fast movements startle Cecilia, so a secure, fully fenced yard is required. This will allow her to play and explore safely without fear.
No chickens, please: Cecilia has a prey drive toward chickens and needs to be in a home without them.

Heartworm history: Cecilia has successfully completed heartworm treatment. However, her new family should be prepared to discuss follow-up care and preventative medication with their vet, as well as continue to monitor her health.

What Cecilia's family should know
Patience is key: This is not a dog who will immediately love hugs and cuddles. Her new family needs to respect her boundaries and let her come to them on her own terms. The most important thing is to let her go at her own pace. For these reasons, we will consider families with older children only - 12 and older.

Routine and positive reinforcement: Establishing a predictable daily routine will help her feel secure. Using high-value treats and praise for positive behaviors will help her form new, happy associations with people.

Building trust through play: Interactive, independent play is an excellent way to build trust. Puzzle toys or games like stationary fetch can engage her brain and body without the pressure of direct physical contact.

Creating a safe space: A quiet, cozy corner with a comfortable bed or open crate will give her a personal retreat where she can decompress and feel safe.
Cecilia is a special girl who has already shown her resilience. With time, love, and understanding, she will surely blossom into a devoted and affectionate family member.

Cecelia is spayed, up to date on shots, heartworm negative and on preventatives and microchipped.

**Applicants must be within a 1 hour drive of Cleveland Ohio**

**A complete and approved application is required prior to an in-home meet and greet**

Adoption fee $350

Apply at onek9.net/apply
