CeCe's Story
CECE: Although God knows what breeds are behind our CeCe, this 11-lb. cutie looks like a Beagle-Dachshund cross, so that’s what we’re calling her. As for how she acts, CeCe thinks she is part Labrador Retriever, even though we keep telling her she is too small. She pooh-poohs this.

It is outdoors where CeCe acts like a Lab. She loves to retrieve balls, and she is great at catching Frisbees. She lives to play fetch, and it’s the best way to exercise her. We mean it when we tell you that, short legs notwithstanding, she will play with you as long as you like.

Indoors, CeCe becomes a cuddly little dog and is quiet and well-behaved, although she likes to keep a toy handy just in case a game of fetch is in the offing. One of the cutest things about her is as soon as you pick her up, this 3-year-old starts to doze off, and she thinks there is nothing better (well, maybe except for retrieving) than cuddling with her person for hours.

The other thing you have to know is CeCe is REALLY SMART. If she wants to play, she’ll bring you a toy. If you’re busy, she goes off and shoves—and we mean SHOVES—her toy under a piece of furniture so it’s stuck under there. Then she comes to get you, with a big grin on her face, so you can get it out for her.

So if you’re looking for a very big dog—a very smart big dog—in a small, cuddly package, CeCe is your girl.

CeCe came to us with some issues, which she has made great progress on, but she will need her new owner to continue this work. We don’t know whether CeCe didn’t get the socialization she needed when she was young, or something bad happened to her at some point, but she was wary—reluctant, even—to interact with people she didn’t know. She has made great progress, but she needs an experienced dog owner who will give CeCe the confidence and trust she needs so she can completely get over this issue. Once she is properly introduced to someone, she quickly gets over her fear. She has made so much progress, we are confident we can get her over it fully; we will teach you how we are working with CeCe and will give ongoing support after she is adopted to make sure you are successful. You will find that this training is simple to do: low-key consistency and leadership are the tools you need.

CeCe is also the same way with strange dogs: she doesn’t like dogs in her face for sure, but once she is properly introduced, she gets along with non-pushy dogs just fine. Again, she needs an experienced dog owner who will learn how to “read” her so interactions with other dogs can go smoothly. Currently, CeCe’s best friends are a Chihuahua cross and a Great Pyrenees cross; she likes other dogs once she knows them. Again, we will show you how CeCe likes to be introduced to other dogs and will provide ongoing support after she is adopted until you are totally comfortable.

CeCe loves cats and likes to cuddle with them. She is also used to being around livestock. Because of her issues, she needs an adult home.

Like all WAG animals, CeCe is spayed and fully up-to-date on vet care. WAG only accepts applications from New Hampshire residents and from residents of communities in Maine, Vermont, and Massachusetts that are on the New Hampshire border. If you are interested in applying to adopt CeCe, a WAG adoption application can be found at http://www.wearewag.org/adopt.htm.
