Cayden's Story

Cayden is a sweet 5-year-old, 42# miracle pup. Doctors once said he wouldn’t live past 6 months, and now he’s preparing for a balloon angioplasty that will help him live a normal, happy life. Here’s what he has to say:

Hi, I’m Cayden. I’m an Australian Shepherd with luxurious hair, soulful eyes, and a deep love for my people. When we meet, I’ll roll over and let you rub my belly. That’s how you know we are officially friends!

I’m a chill guy who likes to see new places with my people and spend time together. My "off switch” means I’m perfectly happy being home and hanging and do not need to train for a marathon. Walking around the neighborhood is my idea of a good time - all those smells! I also enjoy activities like car rides, pontoon adventures, and quality cuddle sessions.

I’m cuddly, calm, thoughtful, and just a tiny bit clutsy. Hardwood floors and I are currently in negotiations. (Sometimes my feet go one direction while the rest of me goes another!) I’m friendly with new people and dogs. I could live with another low-key pooch or be the only dog in my home. My foster family thinks cats would be ok for me.

Honesty is important in any relationship. You should know that I get distracted by things like fast moving bikes, rollerblades, or very energetic dogs. I may need help managing my big feelings about all that movement. If you’re observant, patient, and understand herding breeds, we’ll do great together.

My dream match? Quiet homebodies with kind hearts, no young kids, and lots of love to give. I don’t need a huge yard or nonstop entertainment. I just want my person. Maybe that’s you.

So… what do you think? Want to do this "life" thing together?

Cayden’s procedure is scheduled for June 16, paid by HOABCR. Recovery is 2 days. After recovery, he will lead a normal life with no restrictions. We would love him to find his forever home before surgery so he can get settled!

Cayden is being fostered in Minneapolis, MN.

His adoption fee is $250 + MN sales tax. He is neutered, microchipped and up to date on age-appropriate vaccines. Upon adoption, all of our dogs go to their new homes with a collar and harness, leash, starter food, blanket, favorite toys & treats. They are current on flea/tick and heartworm prevention.

As a foster-based rescue, we do not have a central facility to visit. Meet and greets with specific dogs are arranged once your adoption application (not an inquiry through Petfinder) has been received, processed, and approved. We are located in Minnesota and adopt to an area 400 miles from Minneapolis/St. Paul.

Heart of a Border Collie Rescue's Adoption Policy
Please read 'Do You Have What It Takes' on our website (www.hoabcr.org/how-to-adopt) before applying to adopt a dog through our rescue. You may also find information about Border Collies helpful (www.hoabcr.org/border-collie-info). Steps in our adoption process include: 1) Filling out an application. Taking this step indicates you are truly interested in adopting a dog - it is not binding. 2) If your application meets the requirements for the dog you're interested in, it will be screened through an initial interview with one of our volunteers. If your application does not meet the requirements, you will not be contacted. 3) If we determine your home could be a good fit for one of our dogs, we will complete reference and vet checks, and set up a home visit, which may occur in person or virtually. 4) If approved, details about your application are sent to the foster that has the dog that you're interested in. If the foster feels you are a match for their foster dog, they will call you to talk in detail about the dog, and possibly move to an in-person meeting. Meetings are allowed AFTER applications are fully approved as described above. 5) If that dog is not deemed to be a good match, we may suggest another dog for you, or your application will be kept on file for a potential future dog. 6) Adoption is complete with payment and a signed adoption contract. Our adoption fees are specified in individual Petfinder listings. The fee includes spay/neuter, microchip, heartworm and Lyme tests, rabies & distemper & Bordetella vaccinations (if old enough). Our dogs go to their new homes with a collar, harness, leash, rescue ID tag, starter food, toys and blanket. We are required to charge appropriate MN sales tax.
