Castiel the Loving's Story
CASTIEL “CAS” 2 YEARS 70 LBS GERMAN SHEPHERD MIX

For months, Castiel pressed himself against the metal bars of his kennel, hoping someone walking by would stop and scratch his back through the slats.

That pretty much tells you everything you need to know about him.

Cas adores people. He was a staff and volunteer favorite at the shelter because he’s friendly, affectionate, goofy, and genuinely just wants to be included. And after spending months in an overcrowded shelter, he somehow came out of it still believing people are the greatest thing in the world.

At about 70 pounds, Cas is the perfect size for an adventure buddy. He’s handsome, athletic, smart, playful, and eager to learn. We can picture him hiking with his person, riding shotgun on weekend adventures, hanging out on a brewery patio, and then heading home for some very overdue back scratches.

Cas is also dog friendly. He participated in playgroups at the shelter and continues to do so in boarding. He appreciates proper introductions and may need a little time to decide a new dog is a friend, but once he does, he enjoys canine company. Cats and young children are currently unknown.

Is he perfectly polished? Not yet. Cas spent months living in a kennel, so sometimes his excitement gets ahead of his manners. He may jump up to greet you, and he still has things to learn. But he’s smart, eager, and willing, and we think he’s going to absolutely shine with someone who gives him structure, consistency, and a little patience. Experience with larger dogs would be a plus.

Despite being a staff and volunteer favorite, Cas spent months waiting in an overcrowded shelter until eventually his time ran out.

He was scheduled to be euthanized at 2 p.m.

We rescued him at 1.

One hour separated Cas from never getting to have a person of his own. The adventures. The car rides. The brewery patios. A favorite spot at home. And all those back scratches he spent months asking for through the bars of his kennel.

Now he gets the chance to have all of it.

And whoever adopts him gets the chance to look at this incredible dog someday and think, “I can’t believe we almost missed each other.”

Cas is approximately 2 years old, 70 pounds, neutered, vaccinated, and located near Murrieta, California.

Apply to adopt Cas at thecomebackpack.org.

He got his extra hour. Now he needs his forever.
