Carmel's Story
Meet Carmel! Carmel is a gentle, sensitive girl who's been slowly learning that the world can be a safe place. New environments and unfamiliar situations can feel overwhelming for her at first, so she may freeze, hesitate, or need a little extra encouragement before she's ready to move forward. But underneath that nervous exterior is an incredibly sweet dog who's making steady progress every day.

Once Carmel begins to feel comfortable, her personality starts to shine. Volunteers describe her as affectionate, playful, and very food motivated. She's discovered that she loves the play yard, where she'll run around, chase toys, play fetch, and happily soak up attention from people she trusts. She's especially blossomed with patient, gentle handling and tends to warm up best when allowed to move at her own pace.

Carmel has already shown so much growth during her time at the shelter. She's gone from being too scared to leave her kennel to exploring trails, sniffing around outside, and even seeking out treats and affection. While she may still need some reassurance in new situations, she continues to build confidence with every positive experience.

Carmel would likely do best with adopters who understand shy dogs and can give her the patience, kindness, and encouragement she needs to keep coming out of her shell. Watching her gain confidence and celebrate little victories is incredibly rewarding, and she's sure to form a deep bond with the people who help her feel safe.

Carmel at a Glance

Age: 1 year old
Personality: Sweet, sensitive, gentle, slowly gaining confidence
Training: Learning to feel more comfortable on walks and in new environments; food motivated and responsive to patient handling
Favorite Activities: Exploring the play yard, sniffy walks, fetch, treats, and quiet affection
