Meet Caramel! <br/><br/>Age: Approx. 7 months<br/>Breed: Shepherd Mix<br/>Sex: Female, not yet spayed<br/>Weight: 15 lbs<br/>Energy Level: Medium<br/>Fostered In: Sarnia, ON<br/><br/>Caramel is a sweet, gentle puppy who came into rescue after being found with her siblings, surviving with very limited food and shelter. <br/><br/>She can still be shy in new situations, but she is making wonderful progress. She is smart, very food-motivated, affectionate, and playful once she feels comfortable. She loves her people and especially enjoys having another dog around. A friendly, confident canine companion would be ideal for her. <br/><br/>Caramel has made great progress with leash walking and is enjoying new experiences. She is still learning house-training, settling, recall, and the basics of home life. She loves Kongs and puzzle toys and responds very well to positive reinforcement.<br/><br/>Because Caramel is curious and still puppy-like, she is not ready for unrestricted freedom in the home. When unsupervised, she should be crated or kept in a securely puppy-proofed area where she cannot access cords, household items, or anything she may chew. She has figured out how to open a gate, so secure barriers are important. Her freedom should be increased gradually as she proves she can make safe choices.<br/><br/>She also should only be off leash in a completely secure, fenced area until her recall is reliable.<br/><br/>Crate training remains a work in progress, and her family will need to continue making the crate a positive, rewarding place. Caramel does not like the crate and can be difficult to get her into it. She is crated when her foster parents are at work and some nights depending on how difficult she is to crate. She does best with patience, structure, and gradual introductions to new experiences.<br/><br/>Caramel is a sweet, affectionate, playful, and incredibly smart puppy with so much potential. She just needs a family willing to give her guidance, structure, and time to grow into the wonderful dog she is becoming.
