Captain Picard's Story

*** Courtesy Post for Amy Ray

This big cutie was abandoned by my Mom’s house. I found him running up the street, after breaking loose from being tied to a pole. No chip, no tags, and not neutered. After a stint with the fine folks at Briarcliff Animal Hospital where he was treated for parasites and neutered, “Captain Picard” is now being fostered at my home.
I need to find him a permanent place to live. I have my hands full with 6 dogs and 8 cats, and this sweet dog needs attention and TLC.
Picard is 110 lbs of good natured Rottweiler- just out of puppyhood and still a bit goofy and learning his manners. He is house broken, good in the car, loves a crate, loves chews and toys, and loves being inside and out. While he is good on a leash, he pulls and needs a firm hand when walked, and could use some training. He takes a few minutes when meeting new people, but over the last
few weeks he has grown noticeably more secure and less scared.
I have had him around one of my dogs who is good with new animals-they get along, but I have not tested him with my bigger more challenging dogs. He has seen my cats and is not overly interested, but I don’t really know his level of prey drive for sure.
I am still assessing his nature with other animals, so I am cautious. He had a great meet up with a teenaged friend of mine.
The best fit for Picard is likely a person who is confident with big dogs and wants a great companion for running, walking and hanging about the house. He needs a fenced in yard to play in, and needs exercise every day.
If you know Rottweilers, you know they are super loyal and smart dogs. This is a dog I would keep if I didn’t have 6 dogs, one of which can be dog aggressive.
An ideal home for Captain Picard is someone who is experienced with young, large, energetic dogs and familiar with positive training techniques. Also hoping for someone who is athletic and will take Picard on walks, runs, and adventures! A 6 ft fenced yard is required.
Amy Ray
You can message me on FaceBook
https://www.facebook.com/AmyRayDaemon/
