Captain Jack Russell 's Story

Update: 10/6/23

Captain Jack was adopted and spent about a month or so with a new family but struggled to bond with all family members and unfortunately had to be returned. Quite a lot was done to try to help him acclimate but the situation was just not working out.

At this point we feel a fully fenced in yard is a necessity for CJ. An invisible fence will not be adequate enough. He needs the security of a physical fence.

Call or text 419-481-2744 for additional information on Captain Jack.

Imagine being born on an Amish farm to the farmers own dog and being left alone then cast aside the moment you no longer need your mama’s milk. Meet Captain Jack Russell. He and his three brothers were all born, most likely outside, to never be cared for by the people who “own” their mama. They were racing about like wild animals on his property but received no care, love or affection. Then imagine after quite some time, some very kind soul notices the 4 of them and asks if they can take you to a rescue. Let me just tell you, they didn’t come willingly. They were terrified. They arrived just shy of their first birthday and were so undomesticated that we had to house them in a large whelping box together or we feared, they would try to escape and further fend for themselves.

We let them get to know us on their terms and never pushed them to come around. We gave them time and space and went about treating them as we treated the others but only from a distance they were comfortable with. Eventually, we let them out to play with the others and they watched us interacting with them. You could tell they wanted the same, but still kept a comfortable distance, even when we had treats they loved. Getting them back in their whelping box was a struggle that first day, as they had no collars on and we’re not following us back. I’ll never get the shriek out of my head from the very first time we picked them up. It sounded a lot like we were trying to hurt them. They each went rigid with fear in our arms. I felt awful.

… but look at them now. Yes, they are rescues in every sense of the word but they know they are loved and they know that humans, at least some of them, are good and loving and compassionate.

The boys are doing fantastic and are ready for their forever homes. It will take them just a little time to open up and trust but once they do you will see the most playfully happy, fun loving little characters! Captain Jack is absolutely the funniest of the crew! While Rango & Tonto will come up to me begging for treats, CJ will come from behind and bounce on the back of my legs to get my attention! He’ll then take a couple steps back and wait for me to toss him a treat! He was one of the last to come around but was the first to really show an interest in getting to know us! He just kept racing away whenever he’d get close!

Because of their situation and amount of time taken to socialize, they are not completely house broken but none of them have had accidents while inside the house. (They spend a lot of time outside though.)

If you are interested in meeting Captain Jack, please fill out an application at Projectcecilrescue.com and we will schedule a meet and greet! You will not be sorry! If you are looking for a small pup, a Jack Russell mix or even a healer, you will adore these boys! They are more JR temperament and just happy, playful, bouncy (but ever so gentle) and ever so happy- all the time!

Applications can be found under the ADOPT tab. If you have any questions, feel free to email me at Projectcecil@outlook.com or text/call 419-481-2744. I am also a 4th grade teacher and will get back to you after school!

***IMPORTANT NOTE***

We have recently been forced from our home/rescue. Details are below in our Gofundme.

https://gofund.me/0fc7ed13

Since address has changed, please contact for location. Thank you again to all who have donated and helped us to rebuild. Weekly Biscuit Raffles are still being held to pay for new fence at new facility. One rescue will pull the biscuit… winners receive glossy 8 x 10 pic of a rescue they directly helped! All Biscuit Raffles are filmed and posted on our social media platforms. (Tik Tok, Facebook and Instagram.) You guys are the reason we are able to do what we do and help so many! Thank you all tremendously!
