Captain's Story

Ahoy there, it's Captain! At a little over 2 years old and around 55 pounds, Captain is ready to chart a course straight into your heart. This happy-go-lucky guy is searching for his forever crew and can't wait to drop anchor in a loving home.

When he's off duty, Captain loves spending time in the play yard tossing around his favorite rope toys and soaking up all the belly scratches he can get. While he's always up for a little adventure, what he's really dreaming of is a cozy couch, a family to call his own, and all the love that comes with it!

Captain has already proven himself to be an excellent first mate around town! He was a fantastic ambassador at the recent City Dogs 5k greeting everyone there with polite manners. He has also enjoyed long walks and embarked on a hike, but we discovered he prefers shorter outings and that he considers a frozen treat to be the real treasure of the day.

This handsome hunk has been pretty easy for volunteers to walk on leash. With his friendly, easygoing personality, he is happy to make new friends. He also appears to be housebroken! Whether you're setting sail on a neighborhood stroll or simply relaxing at home, Captain is ready to be by your side through every adventure.

Ready to welcome a loyal first mate aboard? You must schedule a meet with a dog in advance - we are not currently accepting walk-ins. Please look online first to see if there are any dogs you think would be a good fit for your home before scheduling a meet. To get the process started, visit www.tinyurl.com/meetacitydog and fill out the form. One of our adoption counselors will get in touch to schedule and confirm your meet! At the kennel, an adoption counselor will introduce you and your family to the adoptable dogs, share information we know about them, and discuss our suggested ways for successfully integrating a new dog into your home. You are welcome to meet multiple dogs. If the dog you adopt is already fixed, he or she may leave with you that day - otherwise, the dog can go home after receiving the spay or neuter surgery.)

About Our Dogs: All available dogs have gone through a behavioral and medical assessment. This assessment is a snapshot of who the dog is at that given time. We cannot make any guarantees with regard to behavior, temperament or health of any City Dog once they are in the home. Most of our dogs are picked up as strays, so we do not know what kind of home environment they were living in (i.e. with kids, other dogs or other cats), nor do we know if most of them are house trained. Everything we know about them is based on volunteer and staff observations. We do have some dogs in foster homes, where they will have more information about how the dog is in a home environment. It is very hard to tell with certainty whether or not a dog will be good with kids, cats or another dog. If you have kids in the home or another dog, we do require that they be present for a meet and greet with the dog you are considering for adoption.

Heath/Vaccinations: Dogs that are adopted directly from the kennel need to go to your personal vet within two weeks of leaving the kennel. All dogs receive their DAPPL, Rabies, and Bordatella vaccines, though you may be required to get follow up boosters. All dogs come microchipped and with a Cuyahoga County license.
