Captain's Story

Meet Captain.

Seven years of life have done nothing to dim Captain's spark. He's attentive, warm, and fully present the kind of dog who locks eyes with you like you're the most interesting person he's ever met. And honestly, he'll probably make you feel that way.

Captain came to SMYPR as a dog who already had a lot going for him. He knows his basic commands, walks nicely on leash, and is crate trained. What set him apart during his time in our training and enrichment program was something harder to teach: genuine focus. Captain took to agility work like he'd been doing it his whole life, impressing trainers with his confidence, athleticism, and drive to engage. He's not just smart, he's the kind of smart that wants to work with you, not around you.

Off duty, Captain is a champion couch potato. Movie nights, slow mornings, a warm spot on the cushions? he's in. He's a medium energy dog who genuinely enjoys his daily walks and outdoor time, but he's equally content to decompress indoors once he's had his exercise. His coat is short and immaculate, and his fosters describe him as one of the cleanest dogs they've ever had in their home.

Captain is deeply people-oriented and has shown real affection toward children. He has the kind of settled, gentle presence that makes him a natural fit as an emotional support animal for the right person.

A few placement considerations worth knowing upfront: Captain has a strong prey drive and is not safe around cats, livestock, or small animals. He can do well with other dogs, but introductions need to be done thoughtfully and on neutral ground. His ideal placement is with someone who has experience with bully breeds and understands that structure and consistency aren't punishments — they're how Captain thrives. A securely fenced yard is a strong plus.

Captain is up to date on vaccinations and is currently on a three-way flea, tick, and heartworm prevention protocol. He's been cleared as healthy and is ready to go.

Seven years in, Captain knows exactly who he is. He's looking for someone who does too, someone ready to match his loyalty with a little patience, and give him the settled, consistent home he's been waiting for. If that sounds like you, we'd love to introduce you.
