Caney's Story
Meet Caney — The Somersaulting, Snoring, SnackSeeking Queen of Cozy
Location: East Granby, CT
Age: 6 years
Weight: 63 lbs of pure personality
Breed: Tricolor English Setter
Special Skills: Acrobatics, critter surveillance, dishprewashing, and dramatic napping
If you've been searching for a dog who can go from elitelevel chipmunk hunter to couchpretzel cuddle monster in under 30 seconds, congratulations — your girl has arrived. Caney is a onceinalifetime blend of sweetness, silliness, and “did she just do a somersault in my lap” energy.
She came to rescue when her first family had to move across the country and couldn't give her the outdoor life she thrives on. Their loss became OESR's gain, because this girl has blossomed into a hilarious, affectionate, joyful companion who keeps her foster family laughing daily.

Activity Level: MediumHigh Outdoors, OlympicLevel Cozy Indoors
Inside, Caney is a professional snuggler with a PhD in Comfort Studies. She naps bellyup, snores like a tiny chainsaw, and often sleeps with her teeth peeking out like a cartoon character. It's impossible not to laugh.
Outside, she transforms into a fulltime critter patrol officer.
Squirrels? Beware.
Chipmunks? Consider relocating.
Holes? She digs them with artistic flair.
She runs laps, scans the perimeter, and takes her job very seriously. She needs a fenced yard because her enthusiasm for wildlife is... enthusiastic.

Social Skills: Polite, Gentle, and Occasionally Clumsy
Caney lives with four other setters and a Tibetan spaniel mix, plus a rotating cast of boarding dogs. She gets along beautifully with everyone — polite, respectful, and easygoing.
She doesn't really play with other dogs, but she coexists like a seasoned diplomat.
Her only social faux pas?
Sometimes she rolls off the couch in her sleep and lands directly on the grumpy senior dog. She apologizes with her eyes. He forgives her. Eventually.

Fence Requirement: Tall, Sturdy, and ChipmunkProof
Caney needs:
• A secure physical fence
• Preferably one she can't dig under
• Supervised outdoor time (think of it as bonding — you watch Caney, Caney watches for chipmunks)
She's not trying to escape; she's trying to work. Critter patrol is her calling.

Training & Commands
Caney is smart, eager, and extremely foodmotivated.
She knows:
• Sit (especially when treats are involved)
• In your room (crate time)
Working on:
• Leave it
• Impulse control
• Not pretending she's deaf when a squirrel is present
Her recall is excellent indoors and pretty good outdoors — unless a chipmunk is involved. Then she hears nothing but destiny.

Crate Training
She's excellent in her crate and often chooses it for beauty sleep.
She should be crated when you're not home because:
• She will prewash your dishes
• She will countersurf
• She will treasurehunt in the garbage
• She will absolutely find the one snack you forgot about
She's not anxious — she's just... thorough.

Leash Training
Imagine a sled dog and a bird dog had a baby.
That's Caney on a leash.
At the vet or pet store? Lovely.
On a neighborhood stroll? She has goals.
She's working on it, but leisurely walks are not yet her strong suit.

Medical History
Caney has Cushing's disease, diagnosed shortly before coming to rescue.
She is now:
• Spayed
• Vaccinated
• On daily medication
• Stable and thriving
• Getting bloodwork twice a year
Cushing's makes her thirsty and very enthusiastic about food — hence her passion for countersurfing and garbage archaeology.

Funniest Thing She Does
Somersaults.
Everywhere.
In your lap.
On the couch.
On the kitchen floor.
Once in the backseat of the car while wearing a cone after her spay.
They are awkward, unexpected, and absolutely hysterical.

Her Foster Life
Caney has blossomed into a joyful, affectionate, goofy girl who brings laughter to every room. Her foster family adores her — foster dad insists five dogs is the limit, but still whispers “I love you” to her daily.
She is worth every spilled water bowl, every stolen crumb, every countersurfing adventure. She is sweet, silly, loyal, and ready for a family who will adore her just as much as she adores them.

Current Location: East Granby, CT
Volunteer transport can be arranged in the Continental US, within 1,000 miles of the dog's current location. A Certificate of Veterinary Inspection (CVI) is required for transport. There will be an additional charge of $75.00 required to offset the cost of obtaining a CVI. In most cases, our transport team will be able to arrange transport of your adopted dog to within 2 hours of your home. You may apply for a dog outside of the 1,000 mile radius, but you must be willing to make arrangements for transport, which may include flying at your expense, driving to a location within the 1,000 mile radius, or obtaining an independent transport at your expense.
