Hi, I'm Canelo.<br/><br/>For six years, I've had a lot of love to give. I just need someone who won't leave me behind.<br/><br/>When my family could no longer keep me, they took my sister and me to a shelter. It was full. Instead of bringing us back home, they were going to leave us on the streets.<br/><br/>Thankfully, a rescue stepped in before that became my ending.<br/><br/>Now I'm safe in Illinois, waiting for the family that will never make me wonder if I belong again.<br/><br/>I'm a 61-pound shepherd mix with a calm heart and the sweetest soul. People tell me I'm a gentleman, and I try my best to live up to that. I walk nicely on a leash, know my commands, and love making my people proud. If you have treats, we'll probably become best friends pretty quickly.<br/><br/>I grew up around kids, and they still bring out my playful side. Toss a ball, head outside, or simply spend time with me, and you'll see that even though I'm six, I've still got plenty of joy left to share.<br/><br/>Most of the time, though, I'm happiest just being with my people. A walk around the neighborhood. A comfy couch. A soft bed. Your hand resting on my head while we watch TV. Those are the moments that matter most to me.<br/><br/>I do need to be your only dog. I've learned that I'm happiest when I don't have to share my home with other pups. But I promise I'll fill your house with more than enough love all by myself.<br/><br/>I don't need a perfect family.<br/><br/>I just need one that chooses me... and keeps choosing me.<br/><br/>I've already survived being left behind.<br/><br/>Now I'm ready to spend the rest of my life knowing what it feels like to finally be home.
