It’s easy to fall in love with me...just ask my fan club out at Wayside. I have so many friends who smile just by simply hearing my name. Yep, I have that sort of effect on people. I hope you’ll feel the same about me. I’d love the opportunity to be your dog!

I’m an adorable, 10-year-old, 64-pound bundle of love, with gentle, soulful eyes, the prettiest smile, and an easygoing, silly, delightful personality. I hope you won’t pass me by because of my age. I still have plenty of love to give and life to live, and I intend on savoring every moment. I’m such a good dog, and I’m even already housebroken and crate trained. Please stay patient with me as I get settled into my new home, though, as an adjustment period is perfectly normal.

I originally came to Wayside 7 years ago, when I was transferred to KC from New Orleans. I’ve loved it here, and I’ve had a good life. Sadly, my family is no longer able to care for me. I miss them, but I’m happy to be given another chance for a great life with a new family. Still, despite being what many describe as the most popular dog out at Wayside, I kept getting passed by for adoption. It felt stressful and lonely to me in the big shelter. That’s when Foster Mom jumped into action. She took me home, making me feel special and loved and like a member of her family. That feels so nice.

I had been with my previous family for 7 years. Foster Mom understood that things might be confusing for me, so she let me go at my own speed as I settled in, which helped to put me at ease. It worked, too, because I fully made myself right at home within just a couple of days. I love it here! Foster Mom works from home, which is the best, because it means that I get to spend more time with her. I haven’t had an accident since the first day. I stay in my crate at night and at times during the day when she’s gone, and I do just fine there. If she’s running quick errands, she gives me free reign of the house, and I never bother a thing. I’m very well behaved in a home environment. We like to cuddle on the couch right before bed, and I can be stubborn about transitioning from my snuggle time to my crate, but a tasty treat helps motivate me. Lately, with lots of terrifying fireworks and storms, Foster Mom has allowed me to sleep on the bed with her. Ah, that is a luxury that I’ll never take for granted!

I’m a perfect combination of playful yet super chill. I’m a mostly quiet friend, and I’ll happily entertain you when I joyfully play with my toys. I’m friendly with everyone I meet. I love it when people stop by to visit! I’m never jumpy or barky. Instead, I politely approach them, soaking up every ounce of attention they give me. I enjoy going for walks. I might pull on my leash when I spot a bunny or squirrel, so a harness helps me stay focused and by your side. I happily greet the people I see along the way, eager to say hello to anyone who is interested. I mostly ignore other dogs during walks. If I whine a bit, Foster Mom gently redirects me and we go on our way. I also love to hang out in our fenced yard at my foster home. It makes me happy to explore and sniff and lounge in the sun or under a shade tree. I never try to escape. I’m just an easy, low-maintenance dog who simply wants to be part of the family.

I need a home as your only animal, please. I don’t go out of my way to engage other dogs in a negative way, but I just don’t have any desire to be social with them, and I can’t live with them. Trust me, I promise to give you so much love and affection that I will be enough. You are the one who I want to spend my time with. I hope you feel the same about me.

I know what it means to be part of a family, with everything that goes along with that. I will be there for you always, your constant companion and your most loyal friend. You can count on me to celebrate all of life’s good times, to sit quietly by your side when you are sad, and to simply be there and show up every single day in between. Let me do that for you. Loving you is my gift.

Love, Callie May
