Callie's Story

Meet Callie — aka Callie-girl 💛

Callie is a 9-year-old sweetheart who joined North Texas Australian Shepherd Rescue after losing her elderly owner. She arrived overweight at 78 pounds and needed a toe removed, but she handled surgery like a champ and is now on a slow, steady weight-loss journey (goal: 60 pounds — she’s losing about a pound a month!).

When she first landed in foster care, Callie just needed space and time. And slowly? She bloomed. She figured out the dog door, joined the pack (even decided Lila was obnoxious but acceptable), discovered toys, and now proudly participates in squirrel patrol and evening armadillo hunts.

Callie walks nicely — slowly — on leash and prefers backyard play for exercise. She’s good with other dogs when properly introduced and will use her big-girl growl to ask for space if needed. She loves squeaky toys (and can guard them a bit), but she responds well to guidance and has shown no signs of aggression. She’s been great with tweens, hasn’t been cat tested, and may chase.

She does have a permanently “dead” tail from an old injury, plus a little arthritis managed with medication. She may need occasional help with hygiene while she continues slimming down.

Callie is low-maintenance, has lovely house manners, and politely asks to go outside. She’s slow to warm up — but once she does, her quiet affection feels like a gift. 💕
