CALI's Story

Cali
Age 5 yo ( born in August)
Weight: 5 lbs
Location: Mississauga Ontario
Adoption donation: $675

Hi! I'm Cali, a 5-year-old, 5-pound spicy little girl looking for my forever home! My family loved me, but they could no longer care for me, so I ended up at a shelter. It was a scary place for me, so I came to CCRT and moved into a wonderful foster home.
I've learned to live with the two resident dogs and usually get along just fine, but I can be a little protective of my foster mom. If I'm snuggled on the couch or bed with my human, I might growl, snarl, or charge if another dog gets too close. I've made great progress, though, and with reminders I can relax near the other dogs once everyone settles down.
I am a shadow dog and happiest when I can see my person or, even better, be touching them! I love curling up in a lap, beside my human, or on a pillow near my human's head at bedtime. I definitely sleep in the big bed.
There is one very important thing to know about me: I like affection on my terms. While I love being close to my person, I'm not a fan of being petted and prefer to be the one who initiates interaction. I may accept a few pets sometimes, but when I've had enough, I make it very clear that petting time is over. Some people might find this trait difficult because I'm so small and cute and they just want to pet me.
I'm potty trained and will use pee pads or go outside, although sometimes my aim is... almost perfect. I enjoy toys, zoomies, sunny spots, and giving sweet hand and face kisses. I walk nicely on a leash but can be a little nervous around unfamiliar people and dogs. Strangers make me wary, so I may bark and growl at first, but I usually settle down as long as nobody tries to touch me.
My ideal home would be with adults only, preferably as the only dog, though I could maybe live with a tolerant small dog while I continue learning not to be so protective of my person. Most of all, I'm looking for someone patient, who will help me work through my anxieties, and who isn't gone all day, because being close to my human is my very favorite thing.
She has her own FB page where you can see her progress: (1) Facebook
