Butters 0169's Story

Butters has been with us since January, and after raising six puppies, she's more than ready for a family of her own. While she can be a little reserved when meeting new people or experiencing new situations, once she trusts you, she transforms into an affectionate cuddle bug who wants nothing more than to be by your side.

The Challenges (The Honest Truth):

-Can be cautious and reserved when first meeting new people or entering unfamiliar environments.
-May pull on leash when excited or when she spots small animals like squirrels, lizards, or other prey.
-Had some resource-guarding behaviors toward another dog early in foster care, including growling and posturing. However, these behaviors have not been observed in over eight weeks and may have been related to the stress of nursing puppies and multiple transitions.
-Can become overwhelmed by rude dog greetings and may appropriately correct another dog if her space is not respected.

Why She's Worth It:

-A total cuddle bug who loves being close to her people.
-House-trained when kept on a routine and can comfortably hold it between potty breaks.
-Crate trained and settles well when crated.
-Lives successfully with other dogs and appears to enjoy canine companionship.
-Not destructive with bedding, blankets, or household items.
-Responds well to verbal cues and knows several commands including sit, down, and paw.
-Extremely food-motivated and eager to learn.
-Loves tug toys, chew toys, and interactive play.
-Enjoys being chased during play and has a playful, goofy personality.
-Has a nice balance of energy-she enjoys activities and adventures but also knows how to settle and relax.
-Has spent time around people of various ages and has done well.
-Shows good recall and will often return when called, even when distracted by wildlife.

The Home She's Looking For:
Butters would thrive in a home that continues to build her confidence while providing the companionship she loves. She appears happiest when she has people to cuddle with and canine friends to interact with. A family willing to continue positive reinforcement training and provide regular exercise, enrichment, and structure will help her shine.
