Butterball's Story

Butterball was found in a driveway in critical condition; struggling to breathe, unable to stand, and losing blood from an open wound on her abdomen. With no response from animal control, she was transported to a veterinary clinic where she was hospitalized for severe anemia and dehydration until stable. Examination revealed a ruptured mammary tumor, which was surgically removed; biopsy results pending. Two additional growths on her neck and wrist we're removed in addition to 10+ smaller masses which were cauterized. She is recovering well and shares her truly happy spirit.

She shows clear signs of having had multiple litters, including one recent enough that she is still producing a small amount of milk.

Despite everything she has been through, she is consistently friendly and seeks out human interaction. She greets new people easily and has shown no hesitation or avoidance in social situations.

She has done well walking alongside other dogs and appears comfortable sharing space without conflict. At home, she settles easily and spends much of her time resting on her bed.

Her energy level is currently low to moderate as she continues to regain strength.

Butterball has another surgery planned this week to correct an elongated soft palate which significantly affects her breathing. The surgery should greatly improve her oxygen intake

BB will benefit from a home that can continue her recovery at a steady pace, providing regular veterinary follow-up, structured but gentle exercise, and a consistent daily routine.

Given her social behavior, she is likely to do well in a home where she can have regular interaction with people. She may also be a good fit for a home with another calm dog, though continued observation after she's had to time to recuperate post-op will help clarify this.

For more information contact Kelli at: kelli@thegratefuldogla.com
