Compassionate Care Program. Available for adoption.

Buster is a warm and gentle senior cocker looking for his retirement home. He has some chronic health issues that are being stabilized with food and medictions. Some kidney and liver issues that are stable at this time. While he is a friendly guy, he has not yet learned to look for human affection. Buster will accept pets but does not ask for them. He does not approach humans and you have to go to him in order to interact. He's opening up a little more each day but still needs a lot of patience and empathy. We have not attempted to crate train him. We have been using a baby gate to make "Buster's Room" where he stays when we are not home.

Buster will need to use belly bands. He will go potty outside but he needs to be sent out frequently and watched to make sure he does what he needs to. He doesn't signal that he needs to go out. He also leaks when he's sleeping. We use belly bands overnight and when we aren't home so that clean up is easier. He also needs assistance going up and down the stairs. We are using a harness with a handle to support him as he figures out how to use them. He also needs to be on pain medication to help him deal with his arthritis/tooth/ear pain.

I will attempt to train him on some basic commands using hand signals since he can't hear. He doesn't have the best vision though so I'm unsure how effective it may be. He is doing well with out other two dogs. He gets startled when he's not expecting to get touched and sometimes jumps up if he thinks you might have a treat. For these reasons, it would probably be better if he only interacts with older children who are experienced with dogs. He has new new adults slowly and has done well.
