Buster, weighing in at 6.7 KG or 15 pounds was dumped in a rural field and left to die alongside multiple other Shih Tzu (mixes) in June.<br/><br/>We've given him a DOB: 06-23-24<br/><br/>They were found in poor condition and suffering from sarcoptic mange, a highly contagious skin disease caused by burrowing mites into the skin, causing intense itching, inflammation and skin infection.<br/><br/>The treatment: flea & tick medication which he has received along with some supportive skin medications. By adoption he will no longer be contagious but any resident dogs must be on a prevention that manages mites just as an extra layer of precaution. Mattie's Place will ensure Buster has 3 months of prevention treatment which will get him through the treatment period.<br/><br/>Buster had a cherry eye repair for his 1 eye with his neuter surgery. Cherry eye occurs when the tear gland in a dog's third eyelid slips out of place, appearing as a swollen, pink-red lump at the inner corner of the eye. This should not be a problem with the repair in place, moving forward.<br/><br/>Buster may not have full coat growth back. We just don't know the extent of the follicle damage and the ability for the coat to grow back.<br/><br/>Buster is being fostered with Duster and he's a very good boy. Friendly and all in with this new life of love he's been given in foster care. <br/><br/>He's learning how to be a companion pet, but has really embraced human kindness and loves the attention and easy lifestyle he's living. <br/><br/>He's currently being fostered in a condo and doing well, but would very likely love a secured backyard for more off leash freedom and less stress that comes with sidewalks and the hustle and bustle of city life.<br/><br/>Buster would do best with a WFH or home most often adopter. An adopter that is patient, tolerant and kind with an understanding to the trauma this dog has endured. An adopter willing to meet Buster right where he is today in his growth and not have high expectations, allowing him to blossom as a companion dog at his speed and comfort level. <br/><br/>All of these Shih Tzu's are really exceptional dogs and given the hell they must have endured in their lifetime, they are most certainly forgiving to humans, as their sweetness shines through.<br/><br/>Not cat tested, but I can't imagine an issue with a dog friendly cat. Not kid tested, but I'm sure he'd be fine around visiting kids but I don't think living with young kids full time would be his vibe.<br/><br/><br/>FROM THE FOSTER:<br/><br/>Buster doesn't let his past define him and he is a glass is 100% full of love kind of guy. <br/><br/>He is confident and curious and is always up for an adventure. <br/><br/>He loves to taste test anything and is a shoe thief so its good to keep an eye on this cheeky wee fellow. <br/><br/>Overall he is pretty quiet, but will bark if he is frustrated or feels something is sus. <br/><br/>He is still working on going potty outside but will use pee pads inside successfully when he is in a familiar space. He gives clear signals when its potty time with several circular spins before finding the right spot. <br/><br/>Buster is still learning to walk on a leash and prefers a non-linear direction of travel as he excitedly explores his environment.<br/><br/>He sleeps well overnight in a crate by himself in the bedroom. He may show some separation anxiety when crated and left alone, but will eventually settle himself down. <br/><br/>He has a good amount of energy for a shih-tzu, a quick zoomies around the house, wrestling with a toy, or playing fetch with a ball for a little while. <br/><br/>He warms up quickly to people and easily wins over hearts. <br/><br/>He has had short introductions to other dogs his size with no issues. <br/><br/>He can be independent and sit on his own but he loves to snuggle next to you or in your lap for a good snooze.<br/><br/>He currently eats 2 times a day, and goes outside for potty 4 times a day.<br/><br/>---------------------------------------<br/><br/>$875 ADOPTION FEE INCLUDES: spay/neuter, deworming, flea/tick prevention, vaccinations, dentals if needed or any added surgical needed surgical care, food, nose to tail health exam, toys, leashcollar, winter coat (seasonal), poop bags, dishes and 30 days of Trupanion pet insurance with immediate coverage on adoption day for any illness or injury not pre-existing.<br/><br/>----------------------------------------<br/><br/>To note: the above description is relevant to this dog in it's current & previous setting.
