Bunny's Story

Bunny is a beautiful, one-year-old Sheltie who was surrendered to us because she had a broken rear leg that her elderly owner could not afford to have fixed, nor was he capable of managing her post-operative care. Bunny’s fracture was surgically repaired about six weeks ago and her recovery is progressing well. She just had a follow-up x-ray and exam done this past week and her bone healing is right on target. Bunny needs about four more weeks of crate-rest but after that she should be almost as good as new. Over the next few weeks Bunny has to stay confined to her crate and only have brief leash-walks outside. We have learned that Bunny was house-trained using puppy pads when she lived with her previous owner. Right now, disposable puppy pads are the only place she will “go” but hopefully in time she will transition to pottying outside. Bunny is a sweet girl but she is timid and nervous until she has time to get to know you. She can be a bit aloof at first but once she bonds she’s as loyal as they come. Bunny currently cannot interact with other animals due to the fragile state of her leg but she is eager to make friends with the other animals in her foster home. Though she has to stay separated for one more month, we anticipate her quickly becoming pals with any resident dogs and/or cats in her forever home. Bunny weighs 21 pounds currently but the vet said she should ideally be more like 17-18 pounds. As soon as her recovery is complete some brisk walks around the neighborhood should help her shed those few extra pounds.

Bunny is looking for a special adopter who will be extra careful not to undo the excellent progress she’s made so far. It’s vital that her caregivers follow her care instructions explicitly so that she will have the best possible outcome. If you have the time and TLC to devote to this lovely, special young lady, please apply to make Bunny yours.

Bunny is fully vetted -- spayed, microchipped, heartworm negative and current on vaccinations and deworming. The adoption fee is $300. We accept payment in the form of cash, CashApp and Zelle. You can apply to adopt at https://sohfga.com/dog-adoption-application/.
