Bunny's Story

Hi there, I'm Bunny! I'm a sweet, 27-pound American Blue Heeler mix with a big personality packed into my pup-sized body.

I like to think of myself as alert and aware - I notice everything! Because of that, I can be pretty vocal and will bark when I see or hear things that feel unfamiliar or a little scary.

When we first meet, I might let you know I'm nervous by using my voice, but if you go slow, get down on my level, and give me a little time, I promise I'll start to feel safer. Once I do, you'll see my softer side come out. I'm really a love bug at heart and enjoy affection, even if I seem a bit independent or cautious at first. I don't love being left alone or feeling left behind, so I'm looking for a home where my people are around a lot or are willing to put in the time to help me feel confident on my own.

I'm still learning my puppy manners and can get pretty excited - sometimes that means I jump up to say hello - but the good news is I love treats, which makes training much easier and more fun for both of us.

I'll need patient humans who are committed to socializing me and showing me that the world isn't such a scary place. With time, consistency, and lots of positive reinforcement, I know I can grow into a confident, happy companion who will adore being by your side.

My adoption fee of $375+tax covers the cost of my care and stay here at the humane society.

All Pennington County residents must also pay an additional $8 licensing fee at time of adoption.

Happy Adopting!

Humane Society of The Black Hills's Adoption Policy
The adoption process may take up to one hour to complete but we’ll keep it as simple and streamlined as possible. Here are the steps when you’re considering adopting a pet: - Visit our website to see available animals or see them on-site during regular hours, seven days a week. - When you find a dog, cat or small animal you would like to spend more time with, simply call the Humane Society of the Black Hills at (605) 394-4170 for an appointment. - Occasionally, our team is able to accommodate walk-ins, but as we cannot guarantee them, it is best to call for an appointment. -During your scheduled appointment, an adoption advisor will review the animal's history with you and bring the animal to meet you for an initial visit. - A second appointment may be made for you for a variety of reasons (Ex. You have a dog at home you'd like to bring in to meet the pet next). -Once you have met a pet that you think is your perfect match and you have been approved to adopt, your adoption advisor will take you through the adoption process, and you can take your new family member home!
