Buddy Guy's Story
Buddy Guy is in Stillwater, Oklahoma. He was found by a Good Samaritan a few months ago near Cushing, Oklahoma. He has been a friendly fellow during his stay with the loving people who are taking care of him. Their vet has made sure he’s getting great care: rabies, distemper/parvo and bordatella on June 30. Heartworm test on July 10 - negative result; he takes simparica as a preventative. Stitches from his neuter will be removed on July 18. July 28 he will visit vet to clear some skin issues. He is taking doxycycline for ehrlichiosis. (Note: Ehrlichiosis in dogs is a tick-borne disease caused by bacteria and prompt diagnosis and treatment with antibiotics, like doxycycline, can lead to a cure.) Buddy Guy is such a good boy that even the vet wanted to adopt him!
Buddy Guy loves peanut butter, playing fetch, and has the rottie lean. Loves to get his pets. He does ok with leash walking. He will sit and enter his kennel without hesitation. He is a smart guy and ready to learn with positive training. He really appreciates physical and mental engagement. Buddy Guy gets along with men and women. He sat peaceably with the neighbor’s six year old child. The resident dogs do not like Buddy Guy so he has been kept apart from them. He likes to play with toys in his kennel.
Notes from Evaluator: Buddy was very friendly upon meeting him. He came right up to me and he did jump when excited sometimes but with correction goes back to sit. He took treats very gently. Buddy's skin is a bit dry and I suggested fish oil daily added to his food. The owner is addressing his health issue of ehrlichiosis. He knows sit, give paws. He exhibits trust on a leash and is well behaved; he just needs to be worked with a bit more. Buddy will play fetch and loves his toys (see video). He will bring a toy to you and release! I was able to touch him everywhere with no problems. Buddy is still very puppyish and loves playing catch. I think he is very placeable and will be a great dog. When he is fully recovered from ehrlichiosis he will probably be a bit more energetic but he's great now and I think he'll do wonderful when he gets into a home where someone can spend time working on his manners and give him the attention he is unable to receive in his current environment!
