Buddy's Story

Considering adopting? The first step is to complete our online Adoption Application at http://forgetmenotshelter.org/application

Please do not call the shelter; do the application first.

Meet Buddy, a loving 50-pound Border Collie mix who at two years old is far too smart for the confines of a shelter. He is a truly great dog, but he is currently experiencing extreme boredom and needs a home where he can be free to roam within a very secure, fenced-in area. Because Buddy is a world-class escape artist and a dedicated car-chaser, his new yard requires a 10-foot high fence equipped with toppers to prevent him from climbing out, or NO unsupervised/unleashed time outside.

While he is generally calm and affectionate, Buddy is a communicative dog who will occasionally growl to show his dissatisfaction, specifically when he is being told to go into his kennel or if he is disturbed while eating. He has never snapped or attempted to bite anyone, just low growls. He needs a patient owner who understands these boundaries and can provide the mental stimulation a Border Collie mix craves.

Buddy already knows several commands and has a clever trick routine involving finger snaps, proving just how eager he is to learn.

He is housetrained, not particularly vocal, and has previously done well with cats (and did great on his shelter cat test, flopping down on the floor and allowing the cat to approach and sniff his face without concern). We don't recommend very young children for Buddy as they may not be able to understand his communication.

Buddy would prefer to be the only dog in the family.

If you can provide the mental and physical stimulation this smart boy needs to be content, the guidance and training he needs to feel secure and less growly, and the fencing or other outdoor security he needs to stay safe, Buddy will reward you with endless loyalty, his love of people and his charming, intelligent personality.

All pets arrive spayed/neutered, dewormed, microchipped and vaccinated. Adoption fee for Buddy is a suggested minimum of $150 (more gratefully accepted). All pets are placed with a 30-day money-back trial period, to give pet and family enough time to discover any unknown allergies or other conflicts.

Can't come to Republic? Don't let that stop you! We have monthly transports to the Seattle area, delivering adopted pets to their new owners. If you can add a little to your donation to help us cover our volunteer driver's expenses, that would be great!
