BUDDY - PLEASE READ BEFORE YOU APPLY TO ADOPT!! This little terrier was just a puppy and living under a car in a warehouse district, slowly starving to death. No one could catch him so he had to be trapped and he was brought to a warehouse. He spent the first weeks in a foster home hiding behind the toilet in a bathroom. (see pic) He was very young (under a year old) and small, and when he came here to Almost Home Rescue of FL he was terrified of people. He has been here with us over 2 YEARS now, and he is approx 3 yrs old and still waiting to find a home with a special someone who will understand him and love him for who he is. He has made some strides from the scared little puppy he was when we first met him. The other dogs here at the foster home have helped him learn to start to trust and he began to allow us to touch him and pet him. He is still not allowing us to pick him up or put a leash on him, she can not walk on a leash. He MUST have a safe fenced yard so he can go out to the bathroom. He is crate trained and loves his crate. ONLY APPLY TO ADOPT BUDDY if you are someone who understands that BUDDY will be a long term project and will take months or years of patience, . A SECURELY FENCED YARD IS AN ABSOLUTE REQUIREMENT!!! HE CAN NOT WALK ON A LEASH OR BE PICKED UP. Maybe someday, but not yet.

1. Jack Russell Terriers need homes with a secure fence. Underground fencing is NOT safe for a Jack Russell.
2. Jack Russell terriers are bred to be hunting dogs and are not suited to apartment or condo life. The hunting instincts and prey drive cannot be trained out of these terriers and they will stay active in this way all their lives.
3. We do not adopt Jack Russell Terriers to families withe small children (under 6) as terriers are not patient with the antics of a small toddler.
4. Jack Russell Terriers can not safely coexist in a home with cats, birds, ferrets, hamsters, rabbits, etc, as terriers were bred to hunt and can kill small animals. They are hunters and they never give up.
5. Please keep an open mind and consider your lifestyle both today and 10 years from now before you apply for a dog that may not be a good fit for the long run.
