Buddy's Story

Meet Buddy!

This handsome guy is 4 years old and weighs 72 pounds. Buddy is on a diet as he needs to shed a few pounds. Good news is, he has already trimmed up some! Unlike a lot of dogs in rescue, Buddy has been well cared for throughout his life. His family is going through hard times and Buddy needs to relocate. Of course, that is a lot for some dogs, and he is doing his best to adjust to new people and a different life.

Buddy is always up for a walk and is good on a leash. He loves playing with the other male dog in his foster home. They can get quite rambunctious, but it is all in good fun. While he is very playful and loves to wrestle with his foster brother, he does not try to engage the two older dogs who are not interested in playing so he does understand boundaries. Occasionally his play turns into humping, this is an indication that he needs to take a break. In his prior home he enjoyed going to daycare and was good with the dogs there. He has not been around cats.

Buddy is very friendly with everyone he meets. He will sometimes get a little excited with someone new and jump on them. A little training is all he needs to learn to keep his feet on the floor. Buddy is crate trained, sometimes he is more willing than others to go in his crate but with a little encouragement or a treat he goes in and does well. Buddy is crated when left alone, mostly because he and his foster brother get a little wild playing and for their safety they are separated. He does sleep in the crate at night but that is primarily because the human’s bed is full!

Buddy is currently fed separately from the other dogs mostly because he is on a diet and would love to help them with their bowls. His slow feeder bowl helps a lot! Buddy waits patiently for his treats (most of the time) and shares toys with his foster brother. He has grumbled a few times over a Benebone but just because he was really enjoying it!

Buddy enjoys car rides and getting out of the house. He would love to accompany his family on adventures and would be a great hiking or running partner. He is ready to join a new family and settle into a fun routine. Buddy will do best in a home where he gets plenty of exercise and fun playtime. He will need a little time to adjust to the routine of new household, but he has a lot of love to give and wants to be part of a family!

Buddy will be available for adoption in RI on, or after May 29, 2026

If you are interested in Buddy and are an approved adopter, please contact your Adoption Coordinator to be added to Buddy’s list. If you are a not yet approved, you can find our adoption guidelines and application at: www.savealabrescue.org

Buddy is fostered in RI
