Buddy

Buddy is under two years old, incredibly sweet and smart, and found himself facing euthanasia for a preventable bite.<br/><br/>Buddy had some changes occur in the home and began to show signs of resource guarding. His family was unfortunately convinced by a local "trainer" that dominance and punishment methods were the solution. Buddy grabbed his dad's hat one day, and when he received physical punishment, bit his owner.<br/><br/>Buddy completed a ten day quarantine at the local shelter and then came to us.<br/><br/>Resource guarding is typically an environmental behavior, and in our first few weeks with Buddy we have yet to see anything of the sort.<br/><br/>However, Buddy requires a home dedicated to positive-reinforcement methodology and who has an active relationship with a professional, certified dog trainer. <br/><br/>This sweet guy has made so many dog friends these last weeks! He lived with a small poodle mix in his first home and is so so gentle and sweet with small dogs. Buddy is also safe with cats and children, but because of his brief display of fear-based behavior, Buddy will only go to a home with older children, if any.
