Brutus's Story

MEET BRUTUS: THE GENTLE GIANT WITH HONEY COLORED EYES.

Brutus is the kind of dog who changes people's minds about pit bulls.
At nearly 90 pounds, he's a big, handsome Terrier/Pit Bull mix with a strong build and breathtaking honey-colored eyes that seem to look straight into your soul. There's something special about Brutus. He doesn't just sit beside you; he brings a sense of peace wherever he goes.

Found tied to a fence and abandoned, Brutus could have every reason not to trust people. Instead, he greets the world with kindness, affection, and a heart full of love.

The shelter staff adore him. Volunteers adore him. And once you spend a little time with him outside the kennel, it's easy to understand why.

A Best Friend in a Big Package:

Brutus may look imposing at first glance, but beneath that muscular frame is an incredibly gentle soul.
He loves being close to his people. Whether he's offering his paw, leaning against your leg, resting his giant head in your lap, or quietly watching the world go by during a walk, Brutus is happiest simply spending time with you.
He's affectionate without being demanding, calm without being lazy, and smart enough to learn whatever you're willing to teach him.

Brutus at a Glance:

Affectionate and loving
Calm and gentle
Staff favorite
Volunteer favorite
Great for first-time dog owners
Good with children
Knows "sit" and "paw"
Smart and eager to learn
Walks nicely on leash
Treat motivated
Social with people
Loves companionship more than toys
Enjoys walks and outdoor adventures

The Dog Behind the Kennel Door:

One volunteer describes Brutus perfectly:
"He doesn't always show his true personality in the kennel. The shelter environment makes him anxious and excited to get outside. But once he's out, he becomes calm, relaxed, and wonderful to be with. There is something peaceful about his company, and I genuinely enjoy every moment I spend with him."

Brutus is the dog who just needs someone willing to look a little closer. The reward is a loyal, gentle companion and a very good friend.

His Ideal Home:

Brutus would thrive in an active home where he can enjoy regular walks and spend quality time with his people.
While he has not been formally tested with other dogs, he generally remains calm when passing them on walks and is not reactive. However, because of his size and because he seems happiest soaking up all the attention himself, a single-dog home may be the best fit.
One thing we do know for sure: Brutus has a strong prey drive.
No cats, pocket pets, poultry, or other small animals, please.
Because of his size and strength, interactions with younger children should always be supervised, although he has shown excellent manners and does not display food or toy possessiveness.

Could You Be Brutus' Person?
Brutus has already experienced abandonment. Now he's waiting for someone who will see beyond his kennel, beyond his size, and into the sweet, honest heart that everyone at the shelter has fallen in love with.
If you're looking for a calm, loyal companion who will gladly share your couch, your walks, and your life, Brutus may be the dog you've been waiting for.

Brutus:
Male (Neutered)
2 years, 8 months old
88.5 lbs
Terrier / Pit Bull Mix
Animal ID: IEPA-A-18247
Upland Animal Shelter, Upland, CA

More photos and videos: https://www.shelterluv.com/embed/animal/IEPA-A-18247
Transportation can be arranged for Rescue Organizations.

Give Brutus the second chance he deserves.
