Bruno's Story
Bruno’s journey hasn’t been an easy one. He was found wandering the streets of New York City and brought into the city’s municipal shelter, the New York Animal Care Centers.

The shelter environment was overwhelming for him—his stress was heartbreaking. Bruno would dig frantically at his kennel, chew on the bars, bark nonstop, and pace restlessly. These weren’t signs of a “bad dog,” but of a dog simply unraveling under the weight of fear and anxiety.

Thankfully, a wonderful couple saw past his stress and stepped up to save his life. Because of them, Bruno has been given the second chance he so deeply deserves.

These are Bruno's STATS:

Approximate age 5 Years Old
Approximate weight: 30lbs
Breed (s): Pitbull Mix
Spayed or neutered? However, if the other dog shows aggression, Bruno will respond with low growling. He has not displayed any aggression with malintentions. He does want to play with the other animals, but does not realize how big he is in comparison.
cats? Yes, Bruno has been great with my cats. He shows very little interest in them.
On leash? Mostly, yes. Bruno does pull at the leash, but he’s corrected very quickly. He listens to stay and sit on our walks.
Housetrained? Yes, he is.
Crate trained? Unknown

Bruno would do great in a home that has a routine. I work an 8am-5pm job and Bruno has been great. He already knows when it is time to get up, go outside for walks, to eat and to settle down for bed. He’s great with older kids and cats. Because my dog isn’t friendly, I have not had the opportunity to see them interact beyond a gate, which separates them. However, I’ve observed Bruno wag his tail when he sees my dog. I would suggest a home that has a friendly dog.

He is very energetic when I get home from work and has the zoomies for a full 10 minutes at least. It is so fun to watch him run back and forth from the living room all the way into our backyard. Once he settles, Bruno LOVES to cuddle. He always tries to sneak on the couch but will listen to redirection when given with little to no resistance.

Bruno loves to play tug of war and will bring you his favorite toys as soon as he sees you. Bruno also loves affection, bottom scratches, friendly rough play (he has never bitten anyone in our house, not even playfully), treats, staring at you like you’re his favorite person ever and couch rotting while watching a tv show.

Bruno also does well in the car.

Bruno has had a past issue with paraphimosis. He had surgery to correct this. Bruno’s penis is always out due to the correction surgery he had. It does not seem to bother him but he will lick after he’s used the bathroom.

I’m a 40 year old mom of two daughters (ages 11 and 18). I have a live-in partner, two cats and a dog whom I adopted when my mom passed away. We live in a home with access to a backyard in the Bronx. I’ve been around cats and dogs my entire life. Bruno is one of the most well behaved dogs I’ve encountered. I truly believe that before he went to the shelter, he was in a home with structure. He is completely house trained and has only had 2 accidents in the home. He listens to commands and seems super smart.

We have all truly fallen for Bruno. Even my partner, who isn’t particularly fond of bigger dogs, is smitten by him. They play all the time and have even become cuddle buddies. I pray that Bruno finds a home where he can be loved on. I’m sure losing the family he knew through abandonment, going into a shelter and redirecting to an unfamiliar house couldn’t have been easy for him. I only pray that the sting of leaving our home will be healed with his forever family.
