Brownie's Story

Hi, my name is Brownie! I'm a RED pawprint, which means I need an experienced home that meets some specific criteria. Here is what would work best for me in my new home:
-Personality: Shy, gentle
-Can Live with Kids: We are requiring kids be at least 14 years old and have experience with shy dogs.
-Can Live with Cats: Unknown history but likely fine with a slow/supervised introduction.
-Can Live with Dogs: Yes, Brownie would likely benefit from having another canine companion who is similar in size and is more confident in personality but still gentle enough for her to play with.
-Can do Apartment Living: Yes
-Potty Trained: Seems to be! Has been using potty pads in the shelter.
-Bite History: No
-Positive Reward Based Obedience Classes Required: Yes, one private training lesson may be required depending on adopter experience.
-Energy Level: Moderate to low
-Needs Medical Procedure Before Going Home: Yes a spay/microchip

Additional Information: Brownie is a shy girl who has been overwhelmed by the shelter environment. She has been pretty shut down so it is hard to tell what her personality will be once she's comfortable. Her new family will be required to have prior experience with small, shy dogs to ensure Brownie has the smoothest transition into her new forever family. Brownie will need extra time to decompress while she's adjusting to her new home. A quiet, lower traffic home would be preferred since she does best in calm environments. Even though she's been afraid of the shelter environment we can tell Brownie is looking for a best friend to find comfort in and show her that the world isn't as scary as she thinks it is!

If you are interested in adopting, please fill out an application on our website (www.whatcomhumane.org/adopt) or in person at our facility. We recommend calling into the shelter after your application has been submitted so our front desk can give you next steps on our adoption process.
