Brother's Story

A060705 Brother; neutered male Belgian Malinois/German Shepherd mix; est. 2 years; 59.20 lbs
Contact: Calaveras County Animal Services
(209)754-6509
Website: https://animal.calaverasgov.us/
Email: animal@calaverascounty.gov

Brother is a member of a large group of Malinois/Shepherd dogs that arrived at the shelter from one location. Kept in kennels and crates for most of their lives, these dogs have lacked appropriate developmental and healthy living experiences. They were a bit undernourished, as well. Although they were initially fearful in the chaotic shelter, they have proven to be quite sweet-tempered and easy to handle, allowing us to coax them into friendship with multiple new humans as they've become more comfortable. Additionally, they all seem to get along great with other dogs.

At two years old, Brother is one of the more grown up of the Malinois bunch. It shows. He does share the general attributes of the group: quiet, sweet-tempered, affectionate, and athletic, but with less manic puppitude than the youngsters.

The whole group is seriously blessed with beauty, and Brother is no exception. We love the striking combo of those hypnotizing amber eyes paired with his dark, sleek coat. The Shepherd in his genetics shows in the darker coloring of his coat. His calmer personality added to his beauty equals a winning package.

Pleasant on leash for his morning walkies, Brother is a pretty confident dog, alert and interested in the goings on around him without flipping out about things. He would benefit from leash training since he sometimes pulls. He is enthusiastic about treats and takes them with a gentle mouth. So far, he knows how to sit for treats; being highly treat-motivated and smart, we'd guess that he'll be fun to train to do much more. He does like to please, and will roll onto his back for belly rubs for his favorite handlers.

Brother, like all the Malinois gang, seems to do very well with other dogs.

Brother is neutered and can go home with you right away. H

e keeps his kennel fairly tidy; though we can't make guarantees, he may be easy to housetrain.

NO CATS
