He has absolutely loved living with canine playmates and does not enjoy being left alone. Briggs is always in the middle of the dog pack, like the one coworker who invites himself into every group conversation but is charming enough that nobody makes him leave. The moment he sees his dog friends, he is ready to romp. His absolute favorite playmate is his foster family’s English Bulldog, primarily because she has the squishiest cheeks available for recreational munching. Briggs has apparently reviewed every toy in the home and concluded that Bulldog Face is the premium option. He also does well with cats. Initially, Briggs thought they might enjoy his full puppy entertainment package, but the cats conducted a brief and apparently memorable seminar on personal boundaries. He has since accepted that they are not interested in becoming wrestling partners and is now fairly indifferent to them. He would probably still appreciate their friendship, but he has learned that friendship sometimes means admiring someone from a respectful distance while keeping your teeth to yourself. Briggs has been around children ages 11 to 13 and has done well with them. He is still equipped with the standard puppy mouth full of tiny sewing needles; a home with small children would need adults who understand supervision and redirection. He is gentle and cuddly, but puppies occasionally express affection like miniature sharks with no legal representation.<br/><br/>When meeting new people, Briggs is friendly and enthusiastic. He gets especially excited when his foster family comes home and is perfectly happy to be picked up like the tiny baby he clearly believes he will remain forever. He melts into your arms for a quick love session, absorbs the required amount of affection, and then returns to playing. Briggs is cuddly, but he is not looking to spend the entire evening folded across your lap like a weighted blanket. He currently has too many important puppy appointments for that. There are dogs to chase, toys to investigate, water to splash in, and unattended shoelaces to professionally dismantle. With an energy level of about a six, Briggs strikes a lovely balance. He is playful and active without behaving like someone replaced his bloodstream with espresso. He enjoys toys, water, and playing fetch, although one should never assume that “fetch” automatically includes the legally binding return of the item. He follows the other dogs wherever they go and likes to stay close to his people and playmates, but he will occasionally venture off to conduct a small independent investigation. He is curious without being reckless and likes knowing that his security blanket—whether human or canine—is nearby. Briggs hasn’t started leash training yet, so his future family will be responsible for introducing him to the baffling human tradition of attaching a string to a dog and expecting both parties to travel in the same direction. He is now handling stairs well and, once he gets a little bigger, should not need assistance climbing into the car. At the moment, however, he remains conveniently scoopable. <br/><br/>Now, we must discuss Briggs’s greatest passion: food. This boy can eat. Briggs is not merely food motivated. He is food spiritually, emotionally, and perhaps contractually devoted. He will inhale his meal and then immediately begin auditing everyone else’s bowls for leftovers, inefficiencies, or opportunities for acquisition. Meals should be supervised and dogs should be fed separately so Briggs cannot expand his dining experience into an unauthorized buffet. His enthusiasm for snacks should make training much easier, though. He is smart, eager to please, and willing to negotiate almost any request if the compensation package includes something edible. He does not currently know any commands, but he has all the ingredients needed to learn quickly—intelligence, a wonderful temperament, and the appetite of a small agricultural machine. With consistency and positive reinforcement, Briggs should be an eager student. You may begin by teaching “sit” and accidentally end up with a puppy who can file taxes if the treats are valuable enough. Potty training is still in progress, but he is improving as he gets older. When his foster family is away, Briggs stays either in a crate or in a smaller puppy-proofed hallway or bathroom area behind a baby gate, which limits his ability to make creative household decisions. He will go into a crate, but he would like the record to reflect that he is not pleased about it. He will also bark if he finds himself alone and frightened. He was once accidentally shut in the bathroom and responded as though he had been wrongfully imprisoned in a subterranean dungeon without access to legal counsel.<br/><br/>Despite being described as cuddly, Briggs is not currently a couch or bed dog. He doesn’t climb onto the couch, has no interest in sleeping in the human bed, and politely declines dog beds as though they are an unnecessary luxury invented by Big Cushion. At night, he chooses the cool floor—and if he can find an air-conditioning vent, he will drape himself directly across it like a furry landlord collecting rent in cold air. Briggs is a Pyrenees mix living in a permanent winter coat, so while humans see a floor vent, he sees beachfront property. He has no known fears, no resource guarding, and no dramatic overreactions to storms, vacuums, strange noises, or suspicious gastrointestinal events. His foster describes him as one of the best puppies they have ever fostered: easygoing, gentle, happy, playful, and never obnoxious or overwhelmingly busy. He is perfectly capable of entertaining himself, but he also enjoys quick bursts of affection before returning to the very demanding business of puppyhood.
