Bridget-IN-adopted's Story

7/18/07 - I am in Ft. Wayne, IN which is northeastern IN near the OH and MI borders. I pulled a beautiful IS mix from a kill shelter in Kenton, OH last Saturday. She is all black, but in the sun you can barely see some deep brown pencilling on toes, muzzle and under her tail. She is a big girl of about 26 to 27 " at the shoulders. She is an Irish personality through and through! She knows sit and comes well when called (like most IS, it is not perfect). She has all her shots updated including rabies and Bordatella and is HW free. She is a big puppy of about 10 to 14 months old. I do think she'll need someone who is experienced with setters' personalities. I saw her because I was doing GS rescue and someone told me there was a GS there. After seeing her, I couldn't leave her to her unhappy fate at the shelter, but I do need help finding a home for her. Bridget is female, spayed, too rambunctious for young children, needs lots of exercise to ward off the goofies. She is crate trained, but essentially still a puppy so she peed at the vet's, but hasn't in the house. Otoh, she isn't out running around the house because she is still in the chewing stage. I have three other dogs. A 39 lb., 12 y.o. field Gordon with cancer, a 56 lb., 8 yr. old Gordon and a 4 yr. old Cavalier. The two Gordons are quickly teaching her manners suitable for a puppy owing deference to older dogs. vbg The Cavalier avoids her as she really could hurt him inadvertently. She is good with the dogs and shows deference when they remind her! She has not shown aggression at all, but the mouthing could be mistaken for biting, if one isn't aware of what it really is. No cats and no way to know. Someone with a large male and who likes to hike would be ideal, but need to understand the IS personality. Right now she is still mouthing me waaay too much, but I work on it everyday. She is not leash trained, but I am working on that as well. She responds best to quiet praise, not the high-pitched, "Oh, good dog!" voice as it really sets her off and she becomes rambunctious again. I am in Ft. Wayne, IN which is northeastern IN near the OH and MI borders. She is beautiful and a great girl who didn't get enough attention and socialization as a pup.<br/>An application, vet reference, home visit and a drive to IN a must to meet our dogs!
