Boris's Story

Boris is such a delight. He is part Basset Hound and part Corgi, with a happy-go-lucky, never-met-a-stranger personality. He is a love-bug. Don't inquire if you are not looking for a super affectionate pal who wants to nuzzle with his muzzle and follow you everywhere. He loves being close to people, but we notice he gets along great with the other dogs in the Pups on Parole program also. He is about a year old and weighs 40 pounds. He is a good little traveler in the car. He is looking for a forever home, with a person or family who is ready to dote on him and receive unconditional love in return. Pictures will be added as soon as we get them.<br/><br/>If you would like to learn more about this terrific dog, contact the Lassen Humane Society at 530 257-4555 or e-mail ilovepopdogs@yahoo.com.<br/>The Pups On Parole program started in June of 2007 to help give homeless dogs a second chance at finding an adoptive family.  All the dogs in the program spent time in our local county animal shelter waiting for their owners to redeem them or to be adopted into a new family.  Some of these dogs were scheduled for euthanasia prior to being placed in our program.  The selected dogs are brought current on vaccinations, spayed/neutered if necessary, micro chipped, and heart worm tested.  They are taken to the California Correctional Center Firehouse in Susanville, California, where they are assigned to a trainer/ inmate fire fighter.  The trainers help these dogs by  bathing and  grooming them, and then train them in basic obedience.  Giving  them the extra time and attention they need to become wonderful family companions. Most graduates are house trained and know basic obedience commands.  As of November 2015,  397dogs have been adopted through this program.  To meet any of the Pups On Parole, arrangements must be made in advance.
