Bonnie's Story

Hi, I’m Bonnie, a 5‑year‑old Black Mouth Cur and Terrier mix with a big heart, a gentle soul, and a whole lot of love to give. I’m about 50 pounds, beautifully trained, and happiest when I get to be part of my family’s daily life. I’m the kind of dog who bonds deeply, listens well, and thrives when I’m included in the fun.

I grew up in a home with male dogs and cats, and I’ve always been comfortable around both. I’m currently living with cats and doing great with them. I also get along wonderfully with male dogs. I’m being rehomed through no fault of my own — the resident female dog in my current home has developed a female‑female dynamic with me that makes things unpredictable at times. I’m a sensitive girl, and I’ve started to feel anxious because of it, so everyone agrees I’d be happier in a calmer environment where I can relax and feel secure.

I’m a very smart dog and I love to learn. I walk beautifully on a loose leash, and I graduated from a three-week board-and-train obedience program where I learned all the polite pup essentials like "place," "sit," "stay," "wait," and how to pause respectfully before stepping through a doorway. I’m also trained to a tone collar, so I can respond reliably off leash. I enjoy structure and routine — daily walks, playing fetch in the yard, doing scent work, and working on enrichment toys are some of my favorite things. I’m affectionate, loyal, and love being part of an active family that includes me in their adventures.

I would do best in a home with cats and/or male dogs. I’m a loving, steady companion who wants nothing more than to make my people happy and enjoy life by their side.

I'm spayed, vaccinated, and on monthly heartworm prevention so everything is good in the health department.

I’m currently in Durham, NC, but I can be transported to other locations for adoption. A transport fee may apply depending on distance and volunteer availability.

If you’re looking for a sweet, well‑trained, active companion who will give you her whole heart, I’d love the chance to be part of your family.
