I know I'm going to be hard to resist because I am so stinkin adorable, but you have to be the right one for me. NO KIDS!!!!<br/><br/>Hi my name is Bongo, mom calls me Bongo Mongo! I'm 7 y.o. and 8-9 pounds. Life prior to coming into rescue was not a good one. The story that was told is I came from NYC. I was in terrible shape, matted, feces stuck to me, reeked of urine and live maggots on my butt. I was brought to a local shelter up here but was deemed unadoptable by them because I DO NOT like to be picked up. If I am, I will bite you. The lady who adopted me didn't listen to the folks at the shelter, she picked me up and I bit her within just 24 hours, so the shelter reached out to Homeward Bound. Lucky for me a couple of crazy foster volunteers came to meet me and said pack him up we will take him. <br/><br/>I love to be petted all over and have my butt scratched. I have a wonky right shoulder and most of the time I hold that paw up off the ground when I'm standing. My front legs are bowed. I went to the vet because mom wanted to make sure there was nothing seriously wrong with me. He said everything looks and feels fine. We don't know if I was thrown to cause my wonky shoulder but there is nothing to do now. During the exam I didn't exhibit any pain anywhere. All my leg muscles were weak and still are but I'm working on exercising by walking around the yard. Due to my physical condition I was likely crated most of my life. In the beginning I had to get the momentum to jump up the step to go outside. Now I hop right up on it. I did the same thing with the step outside. I am going to need a home without stairs, one will be fine but really no more than that. Mom put a couple ramps up for me but I would walk around them. <br/><br/>I want a fenced in yard so I can continue to explore and exercise. The shelter said I freaked out when they put a collar on me and I hated the leash. I was able to have a collar on but mom has not introduced a leash to me yet. <br/><br/>I sleep under mom's bed on a dog bed. For the most part I am housebroken, I've had a few accidents and I will use a puppy pad. My crate is my secure little home. When I first came here I spent a lot of time in it with the door open. I don't get on the furniture because I can't jump and I refuse to use the dog stairs. Actually I don't think I know how to use them. Since I don't want to be picked up, mom can't show me how they work. I'm perfectly comfortable in my crate or a cot with a dog bed on it to relax and take a nap. When I want attention I put my paws on moms leg or the corner of the couch. If she ignores me, I paw at her until she pays attention to me. If you are agile enough you can sit on the floor I think I might eventually sit on your lap. <br/><br/>I travel in a carrier because you can't pick me up to put me in the car. I love to get in it because it means I'm going someplace. If the ride takes too long I get impatient and start scratching at the sides.<br/><br/>I am a barker and a talker. If you know nothing about my breed please do your research. I am a little watch dog and bark at all odd noises. Even though I'm a tiny little thing, apartment life is not appropriate for me. <br/><br/>I am fine with other dogs but I really don't care about them. A couple little ones here have tried to get me to play but I act like I have no idea what they want. I haven't played with any toys or chewed on any bones. I do love food though! When mom is scooping it for all of us I will run up and down the hall and bark to let her know I'm hungry and she is not being fast enough. She tells me I'm a funny little guy. She loves my sass but she said no more dogs for her especially ones that bark (she has beagles). <br/><br/>I do not like to be told NO or disciplined if I do something wrong. I stand in front of mom and growl and show her my fangs. She thinks this little trick of mine has made people afraid of me and left me alone. We are working on this and she always tells me she will never hurt me. I'm still working on believing her. When you lived a life like I have, it's hard to let your guard down and trust people. <br/><br/>I had a spa day and it was wonderful! Mom was worried I would bite but I didn't. They put my travel carrier in the sink for me to come out on my own. I loved being bathed, oh it felt so good. The sink lowered and I jumped out, probably not a good idea but it wasn't too high. I walked over and stepped on the grooming table, which also lowers to the floor. She hooked me up so I didn't jump off and I was ok with that. The shelter told mom I freaked out with towels so the groomer didn't use one. Mom thinks a towel was used to pick me up so I couldn't bite. I sat perfect for the blow dryer and the clippers. I did not like her around my butt or my right foot to clip my nails, but we worked it out. I did like to be brushed, that felt awesome too. I love my new haircut! It's so much cooler and there is no chance of my undercoat getting knotted and my long hair all matted. No one wants poop stuck to them causing crawly things on them because their hair is too long and not taken care of. I will need to be groomed every 8 weeks. You have to consider that extra cost to keep me looking handsome and comfortable. Beauty is not cheap. Mom's groomer said she will be my personal groomer so check with her to see who it is. <br/><br/>I love when mom talks to me. I look right into her eyes and never look away. This is the happiest I have ever been because I have a lot of freedom in the house and outside. That's what I want for my forever home. Mom tells me I deserve a better life considering what I went through in my early years. <br/><br/>If you are the type of person who doesn't need to smother me, honestly who loves that?? Then I just might be what you are looking for. Hope to see you soon!<br/><br/><br/>Our adoption clinics are held one Saturday a month at our facility in Schenectady on John Street, located directly behind Boulevard Bowl (Erie Boulevard) from 10 am to 12 pm (directions are on our website). We require an approved application before we consider anyone for an adoption - so filling out the application is your first step. Once your application has been reviewed, you will receive an email invitation to attend an adoption event. Different dogs and puppies go up for adoption EVERY WEEK so please feel free to visit the site and click on the Petfinder link for updates as we are adopting dogs out in between adoption events. Puppies and dogs up to 2 years old are $395. Dogs over 2 years old are $295. 100% of the adoption fees go to help us save more dogs.
