Bongo's Story

Meet Bongo! If personality had a soundtrack, Bongo would be a full-on drum solo; fun, lively, and impossible to ignore. This handsome guy is our longest resident and more than ready to find a home where he can finally shine.

Bongo is an energetic, playful boy who embraces life. Whether he's zooming around the yard, heading out for a walk, or jumping into a game of tug, he brings enthusiasm to everything he does. He makes everyday moments more fun, but he's not all go-go-go. Bongo also has a soft side and enjoys leaning in for pets or sharing a snuggly moment.

He's a curious, engaged learner who responds well to positive reinforcement. Bongo has shown familiarity with cues like sit, down, and leave-it, and enjoys working for treats or toys. He can focus, engage, and seems to enjoy having a “job,” with lots of potential to keep building his skills.

On leash, Bongo can match your pace, from a brisk walk to something more relaxed. He has a lot of excitement for the world (and other dogs), and will benefit from continued guidance to channel that energy. He's social and interested in other dogs, though his enthusiasm can be a bit much at times, so slow introductions will help him be his best. He would do best in an active home without cats.

Bongo has so much to offer - playfulness, affection, curiosity, and a whole lot of heart. He's been waiting a long time for someone to see just how special he is. If you're looking for a fun, engaging companion, come meet Bongo and see if your rhythms match

See more of Bongo's personality and charm here: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL1YOEI0eqx9avFWy1yGt_wBTqFqOxpAFn

Bongo at a glance:

Age: 1 year old
Personality: Energetic, playful, affectionate, curious
Training: Familiar with sit, down, leave-it; enjoys treats/toys; engaged learner who benefits from continued guidance
Favorite Activities: Running and zooming, tug-of-war, walks, training games, soaking up pets

SPCA of Southwest Michigan's Adoption Policy
We have same day adoptions! You are welcome to visit our shelter anytime during our open hours. When you visit, you can either look through the kennel first or go into a meet and greet room with an available animal of interest. In the meet and greet room, we will let you spend time with the animal and read off their file. If you have a dog at home, you can bring them along with you to do a dog-to-dog meet and greet. The main question we ask is if you own or rent your home. If you rent we check your pet policy. Bring your pet policy with you; as that is the quickest way for us to check. Once that clears, all you would need to do is fill out an adoption contract and pay their adoption fee. They would go home with you after that! If you are adopting a cat, you are welcome to bring your own carrier with you. We do have carriers to borrow or cardboard boxes to send home with you if you do not have one. If you are adopting a dog, you are welcome to bring your own leash and collar. We do have leashes and collars to send home with you as well. Holds We offer holds over the phone and in-person. The hold fee is $50 and is non-refundable. Holds over the phone are for 24 hours and holds in-person are for 48 hours.
