Bogey- ADOPTED's Story

Bogey is about seven years old, a Border Collie, Basenji and Formosan Mountain Dog Mix from the country of Taiwan. She weighs 46 pounds (as of 3/8/2022) and is fully grown.

Bogey’s rescued story:

Years ago, Bogey and her two puppies were dumped on the side of a country road in the Central Taiwan and became stray dogs. One day they strayed to a new development where they were fed by a kind community guard who worked there. During the daytime, Bogey and her children usually laid by the guard booth, at nights they accompanied guard patrolling the development. They greeted residents but barked to alert when strangers approached.

Not all residents there liked dogs; they thought that stray dogs were dirty and dangerous even though Bogey and her puppies had never shown aggression towards people.

One day an animal control team came to capture Bogey and her children but did not find them because they went hiding when they saw animal control’s car arrived. At that time, stray dogs in government-run animal shelters in Taiwan were euthanized immediately after 12 days; most of dogs did not walk out of the shelter alive because there was only 1% of dogs being adopted.

One morning Bogey’s rescuer, also a resident there overheard the incident. With the help of the community guard, the rescuer had found Bogey’s entire family and decided to rescue them and other three young stray dogs all together.

During the following year, the rescuer had adopted out four of this group but kept Bogey and her male puppy along with her other two dogs. Unfortunately, two years ago, one of the rescuer's family members was ill and has required intensive cares; the rescuer was unable to take care of so many dogs.

In last October, Bogey’s son has found a loving home in Maryland that encouraged the rescuer to give Bogey a chance to find her a forever home; hopefully, Bogey also has the same luck as her son.

Bogey's Completed medical information:

Although Bogey is not very young, she is very healthy; she does not have hip dysplasia or arthritis. She has passed the following medical tests: distemper, 4 Idexx (Heartworm, Lyme, Ehrlichia, Anaplasma Phagocytophilum), CBC, Biochemistry blood work, and PCR tests for diseases and infections transmitted by fleas or ticks. She will have teeth cleaned in Taiwan before coming.

Bogey is spayed, de-wormed, microchipped, and up to date on all vaccinations including rabies shot. She is heartworm negative and on monthly preventative treatment. All Bogey's medical documents including the x-ray films on her hips will be given to her adopter when she is adopted.

Bogey's temperaments and personality:

Bogey gets along well with both dogs and cats, but she is a little afraid of the cat, so she usually stays away from them. She is more people-oriented and prefers to be with people; therefore, she does not have good four-legged friends because she wants to be with people when people are around.

The foster mom in Taiwan speaks highly of Bogey. She said that Bogey is not very passionate to the strangers, but she warms up quickly, and would become affectionate after being given some treats. Bogey likes to nuzzle up to the people to show her love or tuck her head between people’s legs with her head down to show her submissiveness. The foster mom said they all laughed and would say “Amen” when Bogey did this behavior because Bogey looked like she was praying.

Bogey is especially gentle and calm towards little children. Her rescuer has three very young granddaughters who had a fear of dogs. When they met Bogey for the first time, they were afraid to go near Bogey. Bogey seemed to understand their fears, she patiently stood still and waited them to approach her by themselves. After a short period of time of meeting Bogey, the little kids started to hug Bogey, give her kisses, and walk her on the leash.

Bogey is 100% house broken; she would rather hold for 16 hours not using bathroom than has an accident inside the house.

Bogey is mellow and playful; she likes outdoors activities and still have great energy. She enjoys hiking but does not seem loving water too much while walking on the beach. She does not like rain, and rather holds her pee for long hours than goes out in the rain.

Although Bogey is not very young, she is a good runner that would surprise people. The foster mom recalled that one day they went hiking, she thought Bogey probably was unable to run fast due to her age. She regretted right after she let Bogey off the leash because Bogey took off immediately and ran very fast; it took the foster family a half hour to catch her back.

Bogey does not have separation anxiety and is not scared of thunderstorms, fireworks, or other noises either. She is neither food nor toy aggression or possession towards people. She does not mind sharing her toys with other dogs but does not like to be bothered by them while she is eating.

Bogey walks on leash nicely, loves car rides and is well-behaved in the car. She will be a great companion for a moderately active family with children older than 4 years old.

We hope Bogey’s new family could include her into your outings, short trips, or vacations besides daily walks in the neighborhood or playing in the back yard. We wish Bogey could have chance to experience different parts of her life that she had missed before.

How to meet Bogey?

Bogey is currently living in Taiwan and will be scheduled to come to the US after we have found a promised home for her. She will be staying in North Wilmington Delaware after her arrival. If you are seriously thinking of giving Bogey a loving permanent home, please email us for an application form. Because all our rescues live with our foster family, we do not accept stop-by visits if you are interested in meeting Bogey. Before meeting her, the prospective adopter needs to fill out the application and be approved.

More videos of Bogey are as below:

1.
