Bogey's Story
Bogey is a young dog that needs someone committed to training him to be the great dog he was meant to be. He just turned a year old with us and it appears his previous family did not work with training the puppy. We know very little of his history as they did not pass any information on with him. We were told they simply did not have enough time for the dog.

He is now UTD on all his shots, microchipped, fecal check was negative, heartworm tested, and he has healed from his neuter. He came to us in a very short cut and it appears that his fur has turned a light grey and white as many OES do. He is housetrained and can last 8-10 hours during the night before needing to go out. His tail is docked and dewclaws removed.

Bogey probably did not have much interaction with other animals. He does get along with the older dogs in rescue, but he is pushy which does not sit well with some dogs, especially older ones. He loves to play outside, especially fetch and he is quite good at it. A fenced area is a must for this dog as he does not have a reliable come command. He is active and needs lots of exercise to release his puppy energy, so a fenced area is the only way to currently accomplish this. His sit command is great and he is treat motivated, so training Bogey on correct behaviors should work well.

Walking, he is a puller, but again, that is training. We have him in a harness and that seems to improve the pulling a bit, but leash training is practice and then more practice. He has been on both a short (6 ft) and long (15-30 ft) leash when walking in unpopulated areas and he likes to sniff and comes back when called.

A strong chewer, he needs toys that are durable and will keep him occupied. Bogey has not been destructive of anything in the home. He is not protective of his toys or his food with the humans here.

When he meets a new person, he is likely to jump up or push into them in his enthusiasm. A strong 68 lb male, this needs to be corrected. His social skills are lacking because he probably has not spent much time walking and greeting other people and dogs.

He needs to be in a home without children as he would likely bounce into them, or tip them over. Older adults need to have strong balance until Bogey understands his manners. His behaviors are not aggressive at all, but he does not understand personal space. Again, this is a training issue for this playful dog. Someone who is able to spend a good deal of time with him, possibly retired and definitely committed to formal training would be a good match for him. Bogey is crate trained, sleeps in his crate during the night, he will become nervous if he is left alone a large amount. Barking and whining will ensue if he sees you are getting ready to leave, so he would do well with someone that works from home.

Bogey is completely housetrained, no accidents ever when he is let out for regular potty breaks. He is active and has started to calm for belly and ear rubs. He pays close attention to your face when you are talking to him. Bogey needs limits set for him and he will comply.
This all will come with training and Bogey is a willing candidate. Are you willing to take on this dog and become his leader?
